Yeast Infection Symptoms

Many women will experience a yeast infection during her life. Luckily, there are ways to easily cure and prevent yeast infections from developing. Not all women experience yeast infections the same way. What might be a common symptom for one woman might never occur in another. However, by paying attention to the symptoms that are common for yeast infections, you can usually diagnose the problem yourself.

What is a Yeast Infection?

Yeast infections are caused by an increase in organisms called candida albicans, in the vaginal area. It is normal for a certain number of these organisms to exist in the vagina. These do not usually cause any problems. Sometimes there is a change in the environment, though, that can cause them to multiply quickly, which results in a yeast infection. The change in environment might be something as simple as using a different detergent or it could be a result of a recent or oncoming illness. Even a small change in physical activity can cause Candida albicans to multiply quickly.

Yeast Infections Might Cause a Discharge

Many women think that yeast infections always cause a discharge, and they rely on this discharge to let them know when they have one. In truth, though, most women that develop yeast infections never actually experience the discharge that is so commonly associated with it. However, when the discharge is present, it often has consistency of cottage or ricotta cheese. Sometimes there is a small smell, but other times it is odorless. The discharge also frequently varies in color from woman to woman. While it might be creamy white in some women, in others, it can be yellow.

Yeast Infections Often Cause Itching and Burning

The discharge might not occur every time, but almost all women that have a yeast infection experience an itching sensation. This itching might be located in the vagina, on the outside of the vagina, or both. It often occurs with a burning sensation as well, especially during urination and sexual intercourse. This itching and burning is the most common symptom of a yeast infection. If it is associated with the discharge, then you can make an educated guess that you have a yeast infection.

Many women mistake the itching and burning sensation that occurs with the yeast infection with the sensations that are experienced with a bladder infection. In order to tell the difference between the two, you should pay close attention to where the sensations are located. During urination, bladder infections will cause a burning sensation inside the urethra because that is where the infection is located. Yeast infections, however, are located on the outside. If you have a yeast infection, then you should notice the burning sensation as soon as the urine exits your body. This is caused by the acidic urine coming in contact with the tender, infected tissue.

Curing and Preventing Yeast Infections

There are many over-the-counter medications that are effective at curing yeast infections. The amount of time that it will take for the yeast infection to clear up usually depends on how long you have had it and the way that your body responds to the medication.

There are several things that women can do to help prevent yeast infections, although once you have had one, it is almost impossible to guarantee 100% that you will never get another. In order to help prevent yeast infections, wear cotton underwear that has been washed in hypoallergenic detergents. You should always change immediately after exercising and swimming, use your own towels and washcloths, and use tampons and sanitary napkins that are unscented.

Yeast infections are easily cured, but if you are experiencing symptoms such as pelvic pain or a temperature increase, then you should see your doctor immediately. You should also make an appointment with your doctor if the over-the-counter medication does not work. While these symptoms usually indicate a yeast infection, there might be other ailments that could cause the same symptoms in your body.

Although I do recommend that you seek professional medical attention, I also know that doctor's visit and prescription medications can get very expensive very fast. 12 Hour Cure For Yeast Infection is a great way to get more information about alternative, natural treatments for yeast infection, and it won't even cost you as much as a single doctor's visit.
