Do Your Know What Your Audience Wants? - How to Provide Value to Your Target Market
One of the keys to success in any business is knowing who your target market is and what they want. Not knowing these two things is similar to getting in a car without a destination. You would more than likely drive around and around until you ran out of gas or just decided to go back home.
The same thing will happen in your work from home business if one very basic and important thing is not done first - identifying your target market and defining their wants and needs.
But how do you know WHO you are targeting?
This needs to be decided up front. If you are a network marketer and are looking for prospects for your work from home opportunity, then target people looking for the things that you are offering - work from home opportunities, making money from home, making a part time income, people wanting to start their own business, former network marketers, current network marketers unhappy with their companies; all of these would be examples of your target audience.
If you sell jewelry, clothing, makeup, skin care, health foods or services and you are looking to attract more prospects or customers or appeal to a certain customer base, identify your niche market first and then gear your content or advertising towards that market.
The premise is pretty simple and basic, yet so many people make this mistake when starting out in their business. Countless times, you see ads or promotions geared towards nearly everyone and anyone within eyeshot or earshot. This simply doesn't work.
If you set up a booth to sell skin care to an audience filled with hockey fans, chances are you might be targeting the wrong audience. Yes, you might get one or two nibbles and maybe even make a sale, but is this really what you were after? Of course not. If you took that same booth and set it up in a salon - do you think you might get better results?
This is really what targeting your market consists of but it takes a little more time and can be expensive if you do not do it properly. Before you throw another dime into advertising, make sure you follow these two basic rules of thumb.
1) Take the time up front to identify your audience.
If you are offering weight loss products; google weight loss and read what those people are reading about - understand what it is that they really want and need. Sift through magazines at your local store or library and read through articles that are targeting your market. Targeting someone who wants to lose 20 pounds to look better is not the same audience as someone who wants to lose 50 pounds for health reasons.
Obesity in children is an enormous problem in the United States and it's effects are more far reaching than simply weight loss. They are psychological, both for parents and for the child. In this instance, your target market is not necessarily the child with the weight issues, but the parent who is looking for a solution to his/her child's problems.
Understanding WHO you are targeting and tapping into that audience is crucial to success in any business.
2). Once you have defined your target market convert them into a customer or prospect.
Stop wasting money on expensive ads and high priced business opportunity leads. They are fine and some work just great but they don't offer anything in the way of personalization or value. They are simply one more ad on a page filled with ads and offer nothing in the way of building a relationship with your audience.
Once you have found your niche market, the next step is to build a relationship with that audience.
HOW?
Offer them SOLUTIONS. Solutions to their problems. Everyone is looking for solutions - solutions to the financial crisis, solutions to their health problems, solutions to their dwindling 401k's - whatever the problem - offer them the SOLUTION.
Whether it be a service you offer or a product or an opportunity - understand not only WHO they are but WHAT they are looking for to help solve their problems. Tap into their wants and needs in order to build a trusting and lasting relationship with them. Once they perceive you as someone who is an expert in your field; offering them solutions and value; then not only have you found your niche market, but you have begun to build a solid foundation of trust and respect with them.
Providing solutions is what the bottom line is in any business and what every corporation and small business strives for daily.
There are many different ways to be a solutions provider but it takes work. Create a monthly newsletter filled with helpful tips and suggestions that is geared mainly towards your target audience. Start a blog that is geared for your audience only - utilizing the many different social marketing methods available.
There are blogs, on-line social networking sites, press releases - there are so many different ways today to get the word out about your work from home business or opportunity. If you are willing to do the up-front work, then the possibilities are endless and you will not be wasting time nor money on ads that are not even targeting your core market.
Simply placing an ad and sending people to a website is too impersonal and it doesn't work.
STOP wasting time. If you are really serious about growing your business - whether it be part-time, full-time or casually - then you NEED to do it right.
Social Marketing is the best way to get in front of your target audience and get your message out. It's not hard but it does take time and commitment.
One of the best resources available today for helping people to build their own web of content on the internet to attract prospects and customers is Renegade University. You can take a look around for free and for a nominal fee of $1.00 you can get access for 7 days to all of the tutorials available teaching you how to set up your own web of content. Where to go, what sites to use - it is a great resource and the most comprehensive one available on attraction marketing.
There are also multiple books and tools available such as The Renegade Network Marketer by Ann Sieg. These are only a few of the many resources that are available if you are serious about your business and growing your list of customers and prospects.
Don't run out of gas. Stop driving around without a destination. The KEY to success is to get in front of your target audience. Once you have identified who that is, the rest will follow.
Do your homework, become educated on internet attraction marketing, target your audience, then sit back an enjoy the fruits of your labor.
