2 Call the three bureaus and ask to speak to the fraud department. Experian 888-397-3742, Equifax 800-525-6285 and TransUnion 800-680-7289.
3 Check your bank account and credit card account statements carefully every month for any wrong use.
4 Keep careful records of each credit charge you make. Write each charge down and keep with your credit card.
5 As a victim, report to the police immediately and get a police statement.
6 These copies must be sent to your credit bureaus. Asking them to attach this police report to you credit reports. Do the same to any other account that you have.
7 Close all accounts and re-open new ones. With credit cards make sure that the account is closed, and ask if any others have been opened in your name.

Most alerts that you place on your file will last 90-180 days, If you want you can ask your credit agent to extend this for a period of several years by putting this request in writing.
