Backstory...
This page is linked from every lens (120,000+) on the site.
The Top Lenses on that page (the ones in the left hand column) are drawn from a pool.
For the month of May I have been chosen by Squidoo HQ to be a "Citizen Squid". One of the tasks of a "Squidizen" is to add (and I guess also remove) lens to the pool.
To mix it up a bit and do it differently I made a thread at the DigitalPoint forum for members who are also Squidoo Lensmasters to put forward their best lenses for a chance to be added to this pool.
I have been told that the criteria, other than being quality of course, is...
* You must have an intro image.
* No R rated or X rated lenses.
I'll add to that what I'll be looking for before I forwarded on my chosen finalists for the other three Citizen Squids to decide who would be picked is...
* Be sure to have a good mix of content (if it only consists of affiliate modules then it will be culled in the first pass).
* Have at least four modules (not including the introduction module). See here for the reason why.
* Make sure you have an image in your bio pic, as well as your Bio filled out.
I had planned on whittling down the entrants to just three and then put it forward to my fellow Citizen Squids (there are four of us) to pick one. Or in the case that if there was quite a few and the quality was of a high standard I had a contingency plan, I'd double the finalists and TRIPLE the winners. So I'd select 6 of the best and the others will pick 3 from the best of the best to include.
Sound like a good idea?
New game plan...
But I did manage to cut it down to 18. All of whom will spend 2 weeks on the rotation list, as a thank you for having the guts to submit their stuff. And I thought I'd make this lens to decide upon the fate of which ones get to stay and which ones go. Using a poll and the internet public to make my job easier. It's kinda like American Idol, the ones with the lowest votes get the axe. But they don't have to sing as a parting farewell.
To be fair the remaining 8 that didn't make the grade I will say there were some that were only cut for political reasons (one lensmaster had 5 submissions, and they were ALL fantastic, but I thought I'd impose a limit of 3). Only a couple ran afoul from the guidelines that were previously mentioned. I'll be listing those lenses too, but not in the poll. Feel free to bless those lenses with a visit, a fair and honest lens rating and leave some feedback if you feel compelled to do so. Even more so for the finalists.
So without further ado here is the Squidoo Idol Poll...
Who will be the next Squidoo Idol?
Voting is over now. Sure you can vote, but the results have been tallied. Feel free to click through and visit the sites.

What did you think of Squidoo Idol?
Would you like to see this become a regular feature with lenses competing against each other for inclusion in the rotating list for the Explore page?
Though each heat would see only one winner getting the chance for inclusion, with far less finalists. I'd be brutal in reducing the number of entries so you'd have to bring your best game.
And there'd probably be a limit of one entry per lensmaster per Idol heat.

- Is there still a possibility that this might be revived? Seems like a good idea to get people participating more.
