What Would You Bring Back from Yesteryear, if You Could?
What would you bring back if you could?
Granted, some things are still here, they're just not used in everyday life or they have been re-categorized as "Retro" or "Antique".
What triggers our memory can sometimes be the smallest things; what triggers yours? Is it a song, a movie, a product, a candy, people, a time gone by, or a specific moment in time.

- Of course safer, simpler times would be great but I'd really like to bring back Reed's Ice Cream Store and their beef burgers. Loose hamburger on a bun. Yum!

- I'd bring back lower food prices, I don't remember a lot of people going without as I was growing up, even neighbors brought over food if you were going without...Nobody had to starve...

- Oh man, lower gas prices! I remember when gas was a dollar, and that was just in the 90s - not really that long ago! Then one year it shot up to two dollars, and stayed there ever since. Now it is reaching three dollars. I wish we could go back to dollar gas - I'd be happy to hear the complaining that was going on then.

- When I was a kid, my grandparents used to always leave the key in the door. Friends, family, neighbors, we'd all let ourselves in whenever we liked just to say hello, and there was always a great social atmosphere in their home. Couldn't do it nowadays of course, but if I could, I'd bring back those safer, friendlier, more innocent times, all embodied in "the key in the door"!

What's a better time to live in?

Now, present times (from now until 10 years ago) - Why?
Greenwickpress says:
If we are experiencing a difficult time, the past can look pretty good. I think that now is a great time to live because it has the same amount of good and bad as the past does - and one day the present will also be the past.
Right now, we have a black president. Equal rights are available, and everyone can vote. The queer movement is picking up from where it left off in the early 80s. The future may be better, the past might have its wonderful things, but now is a very good time to be alive.
Before - 11 years ago or even further back - Which decade?
MamasCritics says:
I am a homesteading mama! I would love to live about a century or more ago. I l think, from talking to grandparents, great aunts/uncles, etc, reading books, looking at pictures, and seeing movies set in that time period, it was a simpler time. People knew (for the most part) what was important, unlike most today. I also like the tools and skills they used then. Such a simple time! There are some things I would like to take with me from this time period though, am I allowed to do that?
ravenko says:
I think back 11 years and more things were simpler, kids played outside, food was cheaper, gas was cheaper...Things just seemed better
One More Day - If We Could Bring Them Back
One More Day by Diamond Rio
People who defined a time, who remind us of possibility and in some cases youth, set markers in our lives. I remember feeling grateful and glad to be living on this earth at the exact same time as Elvis Presley, Princess Diana and JFK Jr. I found their deaths so sad, and feel the world is certainly emptier without them.
Bringing Back the Feeling TV Shows Gave Us, and the Time They Marked
The theme song of a TV show can bring us back to a time in our life. Thinking back, these TV shows had an innocence about them that seems missing today.
TV Theme Songs from Yesterday
Welcome Back Kotter, The Partridge Family, WKRP in Cincinnati, I Dream of Jeanie, and Bewitched Theme Songs

M.A.S.H. - The TV Show that Represented a Generation
I remember the first TV episode of M.A.S.H and from that day forward fell in love with the show. When I think of the 1970's I think of M.A.S.H. I miss those days. I miss the bike rides, the barbie dolls, the simplicity, and yes the family gatherings around the TV set to watch M.A.S.H. It sure made us laugh.
Just the other day, they had a marathon of M.A.S.H. on TV and I spent a whole day of R & R re-watching it. That was a nice day.
If I could bring back anything, I would bring back the feeling those days provided; The feeling of just starting out in life, and of knowing that life was full of possibilities.

Retro Dresses - No Need to Bring them Back, You Can Still Get them
The one thing about the 50's that stands out, are the very cool dresses the ladies wore! The TV Show "I Love Lucy" featured some beautiful 1950 designs.
Check out these retro dresses, they are so pretty, and there's such a broad range of them.
When Crazy Was King (Song Lyrics written by me)
I wrote these lyrics, and actually have a demo song done for them (but it's still a work in progress)
When Crazy Was King
(VERSE)
In 1950 grandpa whined at the price of our new house
"for $8450 dollars I'm sure I could by all of California and
can't believe they want 18 cents for a gallon of gas"
when he coughed up $1500 for that Old Chevy
he kneeled down to me and said,
"little girl, it never used to be like this, a man
could get ahead, don't you be lazy girl, cause the world's
half gone crazy girl"
(CHORUS)
Grandpa would spit
he might do more than spit
if he knew gas costs $4 bucks a gallon
Grandpa might take that car salesman out back
who asked for 20 Grand
and the bank taking back houses and repossessing land
would send Gramps out lookin' for some necks to ring
and I know he would wanna go back to a time
when Crazy was King,
(VERSE)
That first apartment in the city
momma helped me pick furniture out
"ridiculous rent, she mumbled shocked and scratched her head"
you're living high on the hog for someone starting out
then she turned to me and said,
"young lady, it never used to be like this, a person
could get ahead, don't you be lazy girl, cause the world's
half gone crazy girl"
(CHORUS)
Mamma would spit
heck she might do more than spit
if she knew apartments can rent now for $1500 Bucks
Crap that's what grandpa's Chevy cost!
and she never saw $4 Bucks a gallon
and the bank taking back houses and repossessing land
would send Momma lookin' for more necks to ring
I know she'd wanna go back
to when Crazy was King,
(VERSE)
Went shopping with my son for his $50 dollar sneakers
I said boy, you really need a good job, cause this is
some mighty expensive rubber you're puttin' on your feet,
and you don't like things cheap, and turned to him and said,
"young man, it never used to be like this, a person could get
ahead, don't you be lazy boy, cause the world's half gone crazy boy,
(CHORUS)
He said, "Momma you would spit
these are the cheapest shoes
not the expensive brand!"
and you see that strip mall over there,
someday I'm gonna buy that piece of land
and that's no joke,
and yes Momma the price would make you choke!
Can someone take me back
to when grandpa bought that house
I wanna drive in that Chevy
swim for nothing in that Levy
cause I want to be queen again
When Crazy was King!
