Following Trends to Get Traffic
Trend Blogging is the Process of getting Traffic to your Blog by blogging about the things on Google Trends. To make sure you have a good mix of Keywords, use the Google Keyword Tool. I have seen people abuse the keyword system by what is called Keyword Stuffing, which simply means using one keyword, or it's variations, in such a way that it spotted by Google Spiders and given a good placement. This might be just repeating the keyword over and over and over, even if it makes no sense to do so. This is a bad idea, Google doesn't like and it makes you Blog impossible to read, even if it does get you a top spot sometimes.
So how should you go about Trend Blogging? Go to Google Trends, scan the Top Twenty trends and see if you have any interest whatsoever in that topic. Don't take the easy way out and just copy and paste the lead news story and use that as your blog post. Yes you will get a top spot doing that, but you might get sued for Plagiarism as well. If you can't whip up something on the topic from your own mind, read a few news items or other related links and see if you can form an opinion of your own. Blogging is not reporting. It's opinions that matter, not the dry facts you find on Wikipedia or CNN or IMDB.
If you think people will want to read the Wiki entry, link to it, don't steal it. Also link to other blogs, the ones that have a lot of posts under the history column and a lot of hits on their hit counter.
Once you have a topic to write about, go to Adsense Keyword Tool and put that topic into the generator. Switch the setting to cost per click and type in a hundred dollars. Click find more keywords and rank from most exspensive to least expensive. Then use the top ten keywords in your post. More if you want to. Just not too many more. The rule is to shoot for ten to fifteen percent keyword saturation.
Now write your blog post. Use complete sentence if you can. Make shorter paragraphs than you would in a regular essay. Keep it moving at a brisk pace. Blog readers like to scan a post and hit the ground running. But a good post might make them slow down for a second or two and see what else you have been talking about lately. Keep the tone casual, as if you were chatting someone up or gabbing with an old friend. Write between five hundred and fifteen hundred words. Anything longer looks like a novel in the hyperactive blog world. Besides, you don't want to spend all day on this. There are other Trends to blog about.
Now for the fun part, sign up for Digg, Netscape, Reddit, Etc, Etc, Etc, and any other Social Network you can find. These are those little icons that are starting to dot the bottom of every blog you read and should dot the bottom of yours as well. Once you have a post in the can and published on the web, submit it to all your social networks. Blink it and De.lis.cious it. Sign up for Technatori and make sure to claim your blog so they come back and crawl your blog once in a while. Install Alexa toolbar, it is a bit of spywear according to most AntiVirus software, but you want Alexa to look at you and you want to be ranked in the top 100,000. Just don't hold your breath for it.
Write a Squidoo Lens and link it back to your blog and link your blog back to it. Write more and link more.
I went from a handful of hits a day to over a hundred a day. I know, still small potatoes, but it's a start.
