Overview of the IGCSE

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a qualification for senior secondary students. It was developed by the University of Cambridge International Examinations and is similar to the old GCSE qualification used in the United Kingdom.

The IGCSE is generally exam based, that is, each IGSCE subject primarily tests knowledge in a given area of study, via exams. IGCSE subjects are graded on an 8-point scale with letter grades given from A to G, where A is the highest possible grade and G the lowest.

IGCSE Subjects

A student receives and IGCSE qualification for every subject they successfully take. Students typically take a range of 'core' subjects like a first/second languages, science and mathematics then choose additional courses from an extensive list of subjects in the fields of science, mathematics, humanities, arts and technology. Most International Schools require a student to study between 5 and 12 IGSCE subjects.
