iHealth Humor & Parody - Healthcare Reform with an iPod
Anyone familiar with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training is also familiar with "Annie"... more specifically, with the phrase, "Annie! Annie! Are You OK? Help! Help! Somebody Help! Activate the EMS system!" (I guess Michael Jackson is ACLS certified, by the way, if you look at the lyrics of Smooth Criminal)
So, in recent years we've seen numerous apps get added to the iPod and iPhone that go far beyond music and calculators. In the same time period we've seen thousands of new medical devices and there's a huge push for electronic health records... some even personal records, like Google Health and Microsoft's HealthVault.
Also, in the same time period there has been a glut in healthcare forms, less and less health insurance coverage for the public, and a little late, but welcome nonetheless, a push for healthcare reform.
Now, given all of these trends in technology and healthcare and the high rate of burnout from the health professions, we think there's a company out there that just might hold the keys to our healthcare salvation. And that company is none other than Apple.
Of course this is parody, but we are humungous/ginormous fans of Apple. Imagine for a second that Apple comes out with a line of iHealth apps and add-ons (think iPhone meets the Wii meets Google meets FireFox meets Guidant meets GiggleMed)... Technology that's personal, add-on-able, ubiquitous, and incorporates humor into healthcare delivery.
This lens is dedicated to our interpretation of how that could play out...

Some People Are Born With A Cut Gene
It takes a certain type of person to be a surgeon. And most people who become surgeons love gadgets. They love to have the latest and greatest OR equipment, the coolest flat panels, the newest surface technology, etc. And if it fits down a trochar, well, all the better.
The other interesting thing about surgeons is that they're a lot like barbers... if you go to a barber, rest assured... you're going to get a haircut.
Surgeons, similarly, have a cut gene. If you go to a surgeon, well, you're pretty much going to have surgery.
But what if you're in an accident,? God forbid. And what if a surgeon is the first to arrive on the scene? Well, they have no tools available to them, right?
Wrong... introducing the iCut. Feel the power (and see the arrogance) that will manifest when the cut gene expresses itself in a surgeon with an iPod.
