Sushi has something about it...after you try it few times...

I was first introduced to sushi by my good friend Jerry and did not care for it at all. But after I ate it few more times I got hooked. Same happened to my wife when I introduced her to sushi. Now we are making it at home and love every bite of it. So I just wanted to share my love for the food. Hope it will inspire you to try it and I hope you will love it just as much as I do.

What is sushi anyway?

'''' is vinegar rice, topped with other ingredients, such as fish."If You Knew Sushi," Urban Legend Reference Pages, February 20, 2007 In spelling sushi its first letter s is replaced with z when a prefix is attached, as in nigirizushi, due to consonant mutation called rendaku in Japanese.

Sliced raw fish alone is called sashimi, as distinct from sushi. Combined with hand-formed clumps of rice, it is called nigirizushi (???). Sushi served rolled inside or around nori, dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or nori is makizushi (??). Toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu is inarizushi. Toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice is called chirashi-zushi'' (???).

Great sushi lens. I love sushi and my buddies and I have been frequenting sushi bars since we were just punk kids in junior high. My parents were never thrilled about a 12 year old spending 50 to 100 bucks on sushi without them, but I couldn't help myself.

If it weren't so expensive, I'd probably eat it every day. I usually go for the maki rolls, especially caterpillar (eel roll with avocado on top) or the super Alaska, which is basically a California roll with raw salmon on top. Hmm ... I think I know where we're going to eat tonight!

Inside-Out Roll Sushi

Uramaki

The Etiquette of Sushi

There are many forms and ways to eat sushi and sashimi. With eating, I believe that it is best to start out with something light. A hot, clear soup or a few pieces sashimi. Make sure you use pickled ginger to cleanse your palates and wasabi to give flavor. Too much wasabi and it will be overpowering and will take the taste away. If you do dissolve wasabi in your soy sauce, make sure you don not dissolve an entire mound. It is known to be rude and drowns out taste. Also you should use soy sauce sparingly and lightly. Soy sauce is for dipping, not drowning. After eating some sashimi, it is best to move on to hand-formed or hand-rolled sushi. Start with some with white fish and move on to the red meat. The red meat fish has much more flavor. Savor every bite! When eating it is fine to eat with your hands if you are comfortable, but you can also use chopsticks. It is considered extremely impolite to take a bite from a piece of sushi and to put it back on your plate. The entire piece of sushi should be eaten in one mouthful. When eating, dip t only the corner of the sushi into the soy sauce. Lastly, it is best to finish of with rolled sushi. Because it has more rice it will fill you up quickly, this is why it is wise to start with something light and finish with the heavier pieces of food, but I don't think you should have to wait.
