I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more!

The Kairotic Moment

In the classic move Network from 1976 Howard Beale finally gets fed up,and on a live TV newscast, he implores his viewers to Get up, Open the Window, and shout "I am as mad as hell and I am not going to take this any more!"

That classic scene is a perfect depiction of a moment we all have to face in life, in our own way, at one time or another. To me, this kairos - or "defining moment" - is the truest representation of ourselves.

Every once in a while we come to a point in our life where our backs are up against a wall, maybe we feel deserted, betrayed, or have come to one of those cold, lonely places, where everything we once believed has been exposed as a big hoax.

This is the moment, our moment of truth. It is the moment in a bullfight when the matador decides whether to kill or be killed!

Life's Stressors

I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!

Moment of Truth... What would you do?We each have to face our own personal moments of truth the way Howard Beale did in the movie Network. They're different for each of us, and we're all going to come to grips with the situations differently. For some of us, we might find like Howard Beale did, that whatever is going on around us is wrong. That's a tough place to come to, as modern society teaches us to look outward rather than inward.

Maybe you've had to deal personally with one or more of these stressors:

  • cheating spouse or significant other
  • overbearing boss
  • co-worker bully
  • overly strict parents
  • Demanding Teacher
  • and more ...

Each of us is likely to react differently to these, or countless other stressors way too numerous to mention in an article of this length. The Witch Doctor's written another lens on Squidoo that looked at Voodoo Doll Art. The premise of the lens was that in a lot of ways, it was the stress of the situation that helped the artist to get to a point where something had to give.

In the case of the Voodoo Doll Art, it may be that the very act of creating the doll provided an outlet for the artists angst. Are you an artists, can you draw, paint, sing, or write away the stress.

Network (1976)

"I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more" If you haven't seen this movie, grab a good friend, a box of popcorn, and steel a couple of hours back from the rat race and watch this movie. My articles are about Voodoo, but they're actually about something a little more specific.

What I am really writing about is that moment. The moment we all have to face sooner or later in our own lives.

How do you cope with STRESS?

Are you as mad as hell?

The scene in this movie is one of my favorites. I am really looking forward to learning what other people thought about the movie. I also hope to introduce it some people who haven't seen it. Let me know what you think..

I have a stress ball, I transfer all my negative energy in that ball by pressing it hard. If it doesn't work, I shout (of course, when I am alone).

I was so mad as hell with my workmate!! He was so rude. I sent him an anonymous email via ihatemycoworker.com telling him what's on my mind but to no avail.

Good clip. The movie has good ratings too. I'll have to watch it sometime. Unfortunately, somebody was mad as hell and won't allow playbacks on Squidoo anymore. LOL
