Imagine Peace Tower on Wikipedia

The Imagine Peace Tower (Icelandic: Friðarsúlan, meaning "the peace column") is a memorial to John Lennon from his widow, Yoko Ono, located on Viðey Island in Kollafjörður Bay near Reykjavík, Iceland. It consists of a tall "tower of light", projected from a white stone monument that has the words "Imagine Peace" carved into it in 24 languages. These words, and the name of the tower, are a reference to Lennon's peace anthem, Imagine. The Tower consists of 15 searchlights with prisms that act as mirrors, reflecting the column of light vertically into the sky from a 10-metre wide wishing well.Wired: Iceland Imagines Peace Access date=22 September 2009 It often reaches cloudbase and indeed can be seen penetrating the cloud cover. On a clear night it appears to reach an altitude of at least 4000m. The power for the lights is provided by Iceland's unique geo-thermal energy grid. The Age: [http://www.theage.com.au/news/people/bpeopleb-yoko-ono-imagines-peace-on-lennons-birthday/2007/10/11/1191696065080.html Yoko imagines peace on Lennon's birthday] It uses approximately 75 kW of power.

Buried underneath the light tower are upward of 500,000 written wishes that Ono gathered over the years in another project, called "Wish Trees". Ono plans to have the tower lit every year from 9 October, Lennon's birthday, through 8 December, the date he was shot. Iceland was selected for the project because of its beauty and its eco-friendly use of geothermal energy....

IMAGINE PEACE TOWER Dedication Speech

Given by Yoko Ono

All spirits of goodness of this magical land, of the planet, and of the universe, thank you, thank you, thank you, for witnessing our humble gathering for the unveiling of IMAGINE PEACE TOWER.

They say, if all the people in China were to jump up and down at the same time, the axis of the globe would shift. Well, we are here together. Billions of us. Standing at the dawn of a new age determined to shift the axis of the world to health, peace and joy by loving and caring for all lives on Earth.

Some of us are here physically, some are joining us in spirit. Some of us are imprisoned, tortured, maimed and silenced, but they are also here today with us. Some of us have passed away before being able to enjoy a new age of love and peace. But we are all here today standing together with hope.

The light is the light of wisdom, healing and empowerment. Even in the moments of confusion, fear and the darkness of your souls, hold the light in your hearts, and you will know that you are not alone, that we are all together in seeing the light of peace.

I thank the people of Iceland, for having given so much love to this tower from it's inception. IMAGINE PEACE TOWER was visualized with love, and realized by love. It is a gift from the people of Iceland and me to the world.

I know that John is with us, too, in this land of Nutopia, happy that the light tower is finally a reality after 40 years.

Let's, make a wish as the light goes on.

Let's send light to each other and say I love you! i ii iii

Speaking of love, I have a great surprise for you. John's old mates have made a special trip to join us today for this celebration. Here they are!

Thank you for being here..

John, we love you!

IMAGINE PEACE

Dedication of the Light Tower - the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER

I dedicate this light tower to John Lennon

my love for you is forever

Yoko Ono

About the Imagine Peace Tower

The Imagine Peace Tower is an artwork conceived by Yoko Ono in memory of her husband John Lennon, fulfilling a dream to create a peace tower.

The construction and installation of the tower has been a collaboration between Yoko Ono, the City of Reykjavik, the Reykjavik Art Museum and Reykjavik Energy.

The work is in the form of a wishing well from which a very strong and tall tower of light emerges. The strength, intensity and brilliance of the light tower continually changes as the particles in the air fluctuate with the prevailing weather and atmospheric conditions unique to Iceland.

The Imagine Peace Tower is dedicated to John Lennon and Yoko Ono's message of peace and bears the inscription of "IMAGINE PEACE" displayed in 24 languages.

Every year the Imagine Peace Tower will light up between October 9th (Lennon's birthday) and December 8th (the day of his death). In addition the tower will be lit on New Year's Eve, during the first week of spring and other special occasions determined by the City and Yoko Ono.

Yoko on Dennis Kucinich's Video

I watched Dennis Kucinich's video and was choked up listening to his sincere and eloquent words. I was so impressed by a professional politician being on the same page as us.

All my life, I have believed only in grassroots efforts. I still do. But, today, clearly, we are together. That is nice to know.

I have decided to put this on www.IMAGINEPEACE.com and share it with you, knowing that it will be taken in the right spirit.

I thank Dennis and I congratulate Ohio citizens for having such a remarkable representative in the senate.

Sending my love to all of you.

Think Peace to Change the World

If one billion people in the world think peace, we'll get peace.

You may think:
"Well, how are we going to get one billion people in the world to think PEACE?"

Remember, each one of us has the power to change the world.

Power works in mysterious ways.
You don't have to do much.

Visualise the domino effect and just start thinking PEACE.
Thoughts are infectious.
Send it out.

The message will circulate faster than you think.
It's time for action.
The action is PEACE.
Spread the WORD.
Spread PEACE.

Remember: A dream we dream together is reality.
So stand up, speak out, and come together.

Imagine all the people living life in peace.

Creating a Circle of Peace

Personally and professionally, I have long had the belief that there is a healing power in holding a person or a thing in one's thoughts-whether through saying prayers or blessings, lighting candles or visualizing healing.

With the Imagine Peace Tower that Yoko Ono is creating a circle of peace around the world. We are all together in seeing the light of peace. As she has said:

Each one of us has the power to change the world.

    Power works in mysterious ways.
You don't have to do much.

    Visualise...and just start thinking PEACE.
    Thoughts are infectious.
    Send it out.

The message will circulate faster than you think.

Keep imagining all the people, living life in peace and perhaps one of these days soon, the world will live as one.
