ImagineMDD: Pop Culture & The Arts, Relationships & Milestones

Ranked #620 in Squidoo Community, #83,695 overall

ImagineMDD's Articles, Misenti-Despres Designs, Web Pages

My husband and I form Misenti-Despres Designs, MDD. We have a Zazzle Shop, ImagineMDD. I'm a jewelry designer and writer. My husband builds furniture and is a luthier. He designs and builds stringed instruments. He's currently building guitars and selling them.

This is my Lensography, a list of the pages a.k.a. Lenses that I've written for Squidoo. It's updated often, and I add new categories for different types of articles.

I have an interest in technology, weddings and family events, pets, pop culture particularly from the Baby Boomer era and also looking at how we navigate life transitions and milestones. Special niches are Bling clothing, accessories & decor, luthier shirts & shop aprons and children's learning toys. In my jewelry design, there is a special desire to make items easier to wear for women who may have disabilities, problems getting things on and off. Health, aging and disability are another topic of interest.

Our blog is online and we regularly update the posts already in there so they stay as current as possible. We cover issues such as aging, disability, women's issues, as well as profiling artists and types of artwork, upcoming events of artists around the world, pop culture and our own blossoming creative careers. We're on hiatus from our Etsy shop but expect to be back in swing with Etsy soon! Updates to come. In the meantime, please enjoy these Squidoo articles and items in our Zazzle Shop.

I started writing on Squidoo to promote ImagineMDD, our on- and offline business. Squidoo reminds me of Etsy in how it is like a community of people who assist one another in the process.

I like to promote my fellow artists including those on Etsy, in my blog and also here on Squidoo. I know well how hard it is to become known. My husband and I met in a creative writing workshop over twenty years ago. We've both been writing for a lot longer than that and I'm working on my jewelry and other projects along with the writing. It isn't easy. It's a good feeling when I can add a little promotion to another artist's items.

This list is growing and evolving and will change frequently. Thanks for your interest.

Bell, Book and Candle DVD : Kim Novak

Staid, secure publisher James Stewart leads a quiet life until he meets his bewitching downstairs neighbor, Kim Novak. John Van Druten's lighthearted Broadway comedy becomes a lush if lightweight romantic vehicle for Stewart and Novak, who would reunite for Hitchcock's Vertigo the next year.

Novak is at her best as a Greenwich witch halfway between the worlds of magic and mortals, looking after her dotty aunt (Elsa Lanchester) and mischievous warlock brother (Jack Lemmon) as they keep their skills in practice. Novak's specialty is making men fall for her, but it's a one-way street: when a witch falls in love, she loses her powers. -- Amazon excerpt

I also realize that success isn't one goal, one place. There are many, many successes along the path to where we think we want to be. Each sale, each new friend is a success.

Everything that moves you forward, when you're choosing to focus on what's moving you forward while it seems you're moving away from what you thought you wanted or just staying in one place.

Kinstler :: Everett Raymond Kinstler

The Artist's Journey Through Popular Culture, 1942-1962

~ by Jim Vadeboncoeur Jr. (Author), Everett Raymond Kinstler (Editor)

Everette Raymond Kinstler's portraits of Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, Jimmy Cagney, and Katharine Hepburn may be familiar to art lovers, but few realize that he honed his craft as a high school dropout, inking and sketching comics for pulps like Dime Mystery.

This book is the first to examine the popular culture phase of Kinstler's career, and it includes an extended biography liberally spiced with anecdotes, reminiscences, and commentary by the artist. More than 300 illustrations - many reproduced from originals in Kinstler's archives - portray his lively early work, including double-page pulp spreads, paperback novel covers, and panels from Classics Illustrated.

Lifeboat (Special Edition) Alfred Hitchcock

Tallulah Bankhead

Nominated for three Academy Awards, Alfred Hitchcock's "absorbing brilliantly executed" (Hollywood Reporter) World War II drama, is a remarkable story of human survival.

After their ship is sunk in the Atlantic by Germans, eight people are stranded in a lifeboat, among them a glamorous journalist (Tallulah Bankhead), a tough seaman (John Hodiak), a nurse (Mary Anderson) and an injured sailor (William Bendix).

Their problems are further compounded when they pick up a ninth passenger - the Nazi captain from the U-boat that torpedoed them. With its powerful interplay of suspense and emotion, this legendary classic is a microcosm of humanity, revealing the subtleties of man's strengths and frailties under extraordinary duress.

Transition, life's milestones and how we deal with them

Best to play the hand you're dealt, it's said

I'm inspired by transitional periods in our lives. Misenti-Despres Designs offers designs and ideas that bring out your exclusivity, but the goal is also to be inclusive. Real women. Women of different sizes, women who may have some physical limitations making it difficult to wear some jewelry or get it on and off. We're always thinking of the woman who will wear our jewelry. I look for ways to symbolize these times of transition and welcome your ideas and requests.

Imagine a world without hypothetical situations...

John Lennon, Yoko Ono on Dick Cavett: Imagine

Also: Lucille Ball, Leigh French, Henry Gibson, Doug Henning, Liza Minnelli

The Dick Cavett Show : John Lennon & Yoko Ono and more

John Lennon devotees (and, to a lesser extent, Beatles fans in general) should be delighted with The Dick Cavett Show - John Lennon & Yoko Ono, which collects (on two discs) his three appearances on the TV talk show in 1971 and '72. It won't be because of the music; there's very little of that, and what there is, frankly, is not great.

Of much more interest is the opportunity to see and hear Lennon, then in his early thirties, talk about matters both slight (his new haircut, the state of television in England) and significant (the Nixon administration's efforts to deport him, Lennon and Ono's battle for shared custody of her daughter from an earlier marriage).

Always the most verbally agile of the Beatles, Lennon appears here with his rapier wit (on Yoko's chain smoking: "Every time I kiss her, I burn my chin") and penchant for punning (when Cavett appears without neckwear, Lennon calls him "tie-less in Gaza") intact. He also tirelessly plugs his and Ono's various activities, which gets a little old, but his passion for and commitment to their causes are undeniable.

Don't expect much Beatles talk; while he evidences no bitterness about the band's demise, neither does he indulge in any sentimentality (although it's poignant, given his murder in 1980, to hear him say that he'd never want to be onstage singing "She Loves You" at age 50).

As for the two live performances (there's also an "Imagine" film clip), both coming at the end of the third Cavett show, let's just say that the Lennons' collaboration with the New York band Elephant's Memory, which yielded the album Sometime in New York City and the two songs they play here (his strident "Woman is the Nigger of the World" and her "We're All Water"), wasn't exactly their creative zenith. --Sam Graham, Amazon
