The Teddy and the Bear Mechanical Bank
Featured Mechanical Bank Listing
The Teddy and the Bear Mechanical Bank
Original Teddy Roosevelt and The Bear cast iron mechanical bank. The bank was patented circa 1907 or so. Underneath the bank is the following wording "Pat Appld For". The bank was designed by Charles Bailey the famous master bank designer. The bank was manufactured by the the J. & E. Stevens Company which was located in Cromwell, Connecticut.
The bank has outstanding, very bright, & rich all original paint. There is a little wear to the paint here & there. But, this is example really has wonderful all original paint. It would be very hard to upgrade this example paintwise. Overall we would estimate that there is approximately 96% to 98% of the original paint present.
We have examined the bank very carefully for several hours before listing it on eBay. Looking very closely we notice that here & there in some of the crevices of the bank there are some tiny faint signs of a little dusty residue from when the bank was probably cleaned many years ago. We have left the bank exactly how it was we found it many years ago & placed it in our collection until now.
The bank is in excellent working condition. All of the components to the bank are entirely original in all ways. There are no repairs, no cracks, no chips, no breaks, & no touchups. This paint version with the deep rich brown tree is traditionally thought to be one of the earlier paint versions of the bank.
The precise condition of this exceptionally choice & all original bank is clearly shown in the pics. The bank measures approximately 10 1/8" long by 2 15/16" wide ( at the widest point ) by 9 1/2" tall ( with the tree lid open balanced on the bear head ). In over 42 years of buying mechanical banks this is the most beautiful example of a Teddy and The Bear bank that we have ever had the pleasure of owning.
