The Incredible Human Immune System

In these pages you will find out how the immune system controls everything about the physical you. How healthy you are, how fast wounds heal and even how fast you age. But what is it? Where does it reside? How does it work? I suppose only our Creator can give the definitive answers to these questions but I will gather all the knowledge on this subject that I can find in layman's terms. This information will also validate a supplement I have been taking for over three years that balances the immune system called immune26 by Legacy for Life. It claims that a balanced immune system causes you to be as healthy as you can possibly be, period. Everything else is secondary.

Immune System Basics

The immune system is a complex system of cellular, biochemical and genetic components that function together. Some of the smallest components are biomolecules called immune factors or immunoregularoty molecules. This system has the ability to distinguish between self and non-self. Non-self being invaders such as bacteria and viruses. We will reduce these invaders to two types called called pathogens and antigens. Pathogens are agents that cause disease. These agents are microorganisms such as bacteria or fungus. Antigens include toxins, foreign blood cells, cells of transplanted organs and again, bateria. Antigens and pathogens stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies to neutralize them and create an immunity to them. This immunologic memory is why vaccination works. Weakened or dead "germs" are introduced into your body and your immune system attacks them. In doing so, it remembers what it did to successfully neutralize them. When a live germ such as the flu enters your body, the immune system is ready with the proper ammuntion to attack.
Your immune system can be affected by many things just as other systems in your body. Bacteria, pollutants, parasites, emotional problems and improper diet can cause your immune system to be out of balance. A weak immune system will allow the invaders to get the upper hand and cause sickness. Many people think that strengthening the immune system is the answer to a healthy life, the stronger the better. This is not always the case such as when a person has allergies. Here, the immune system is over-reacting to common invaders that it should normally ignore such as pollen or animal dander. An overactive immune system is also typified by inflammatory responses. An immune system that is too sensitive is thought to indirectly lead to not only allergies but also MS, fibromyalgia, lupus, arthirits, Crohn's disease and diabetes. Many treatments for allergies weaken the immune system which in turn now leaves a person more suseptible to illness. Obviously the key here is to have an immune system that is not too weak and not too strong. A balanced immune system! A way to have a balanced immune system is to supplement with natural immune system regulators. The supplement that I take, immune26 by Legacy for Life, is one such regulator. Are there others?

The Immune System

There are many sites on the immune system but I feel that these present information in a consise way and in "layman's" terms.
Wikipedia's story
Basic layman's description of the immune system.

Cytokines, immunoglobulin and the rest of the gang.

More info on the discreet components of the immune system.

Cytokines- The good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes they help, sometimes they kill you!
Immunoglobins (or is it immunoglobulins?) Another name for antibodies. This specific protein is one of the workhorses of the immune system.
And there is a cast of others.
Cytokines
Some detail about cytokines.
There will be much more to follow on this interesting component to the immune system.
immunoglobulin
Details about immunoglobulin. Also known as specific proteins called antibodies.
Immunoglobulins
Another good source of info on immunoglobulin from wikipedia.
Detailed images
Here are some nice detailed images of the immunoglobulin structure.
Immunoglobins
Is it called immunoglobulins or immunoglobins? Here is a site that uses the term immunoglobin. They look like they are one in the same. I have an email out to an expert to try to clear this up. Currently my thoughts are that immunoglobin is an American spelling and immunoglobulin is a British spelling. Comments are welcome.
A good parts list.
This site has a nice but brief list of major parts of the immune system.

Colostrum and Hyperimmune Egg

Two main sources of immune system boosters

Colostrum is the liquid that a comes first from a mother mammel before the regular milk. This gives the offspring a temporary immune system until it can develop its own. Some feel that if you drink colostrum, it will have a significant benefit to your own immune system as an immune system regulator. The egg on the other hand, has the temporary immune system within it. Some, including me, feel that if you vaccinate a chicken with human pathogens and then eat this chicken's egg, your immune system will benefit greatly. This egg is called a huyperimmunized egg.
Colostrum
Find out about colostrum and its effects on the human immune system.
Hyperimmmune Eggs
Learn about hymperimmune eggs; how they are created and what benefits they have for the human immune system.
Hyperimmune Egg Patent
Probably boring for most but I feel that a patent represents a type of validation about the effectiveness of a hyperimmune egg and the logic behind it.
