Discoveries from an Internet Marketing Newbie

Money is the product that is the biggest seller, the product that we all wish to obtain. Think about it, Affiliate Marketers are in it because?...it pays! PPC Marketing is so big because?... it pays! MLM is so big because?... it pays! Bloggers are joining blogging sites en masse and feverishly tapping away because?....it pays! People are joining marketing forums and gathering information because?...it pays! People are building websites and creating databases of email addresses because?...it pays!

The reason that the Internet Marketing field is so attractive is because of the promise that a lot of money can be made. People are drawn to it like a magnet,lured by the promise of instant riches for little effort.
This idea is perpetuated by thousands of sites , all promising that very same outcome, if you buy here, sign up there.
The thing is that money can be made and yes,good money for some, and there are many who are making a killing by implementing smart marketing strategies.

I am an average middle aged guy (but still waiting to grow up) who lives across the road from one of the great beaches and surfing points (Currumbin) found on Australia's Gold Coast in the sunny state of Queensland (google it!). I love my guitar and music.

I first looked at the internet as a means of income about eight years ago, when I had just received a good sized redundancy payout from my employer at the time. I was able to live comfortably off this payout for a fair amount of time, without a worry. I did a bit of travelling in this great country with my partner at the time in our Kombi, took to teaching guitar, got heaps of time to surf, and was pretty happy and not desperate for money. But money always has an allure, it cant buy happiness but can certainly buy a lot of things that do create a certain amount of comfort and happiness. I believed a lot of the hype and bought into a few ideas and schemes that promised to make me rich overnight.

At the time IM was still relaively new and the products at the time were still a bit primitive and hard for me to grasp, or maybe the urgency was not there and my cruisy lifestyle had made me a little aloof. I wasted a lot of time though, and money going from scheme to scheme, trying to put it all together. As it turns out after a couple of years and some bad investments, I went back into the work force, holding various jobs. Once back in the nine to five grind I found myself again longing for the freedom and leisure I had lost.

Just recently, again I have found myself in between jobs due to the current economic situation. Once again I have decided to look into IM as an income source.I will add that I have virtually no startup capital and out of necessity have had to outlay the barest minimum to obtain the information and tutoring that I have now come upon. The truth is that you do need some outlay but if you can minimise that outlay, those dollars are better off in your pocket than someone elses dont you agree? After all the aim of the game is your abundance!!

It has taken a bit longer than I had anticipated but what have I found? A jungle!There has been a marketing explosion. I sat down with the intention of getting straight into a quick little study of the varying IM genres and marketing techniques, and my quick study turned into weeks of following links to this site and that, downloading e-books on marketing systems, joining mailing lists to receive tutorials, all providing information on making money.

99% of the information I have come across has been helpful but only to a certain point. There are a lot of dubious sites and products verging on scams. I have learned about website creation and hosting, domain names, building backlinks, article marketing, marketing through blogging techniques, affiliate marketing, niche marketing, traffic exchanges, offering freebies and such, advertising through google, video marketing, keyword generation, search engine optimisation, building email lists, autoresponders, techniques to build a frenzy that drives people to buy what you have got on offer, be it a product or information.

I have learned about overhype, and insane unachievable promises of massive wealth. I have learned about PLR and duplication penalisation (is that a word?) by the search engines. I have learned about clickbank. I have learned how to use social sites such as twitter, facebook, myspace etc to promote my own websites.

A lot of sites that I found require you to pay big dollars to obtain the answer/formula to making yourself rich. But they still seem to leave out pieces from the puzzle, bits of information that would just bring it all together nicely. Maybe if I had enough cash to fork over to these guru's I might have found a more complete picture sooner. But in reality do the Guru's really want every body crowding them out of a lucrative income?

These guys have been dominating the IM scene for quite a while and have the monetary ammunition to dominate places like google ads etc, and most can say that they have made the gigantic amounts of cash that they claim because they have. They promise that you can too, if you pay them money.But can you?

Do you have all their resources and knowledge? Pay them enough and they will part with information and programs, but is it enough? Will you use the same amount of investment capital and exactly the same techniques to put into, say, getting search engine optimisation through a tool or program that will launch you into the top ten on a google search page? Will you dig around and study up on profitable keyword techniques and tools?

I have however, discovered some gems while digging around. I will review these products and sites in future blogs from the standpoint of a newbie. I have found some sites where all the information is packaged into a neat bundle for your convenience, and a plan is laid out step by step to get you to your income goal sooner than later.
