I'm not a feminst or anything but. . .

Usually what follows that is something that fits directly with feminist ideals and values. Why are people so afraid to identify themselves as feminist? When did feminism become such a dirty word? The definition of a feminist is a person who has belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. Pretty terrible huh?

Let me introduce myself. My name is Kate, aka The Dark Haired Girl, and I'm a feminist. I have never burned a bra, I shave, I am heterosexual, and I am not a man-hater. I am a feminist. If however burn my bra, cease to shave, and became a lesbian, these would all be acceptable things, but they are not necessary to identifying as a feminist.

  1. I believe that I should be able to make the same amount of money as a man in the same field
  2. I believe that it is my right to decide what goes on with my body
  3. I believe that it is my choice to decide whether to pursue a career or be a stay at home mom
  4. I believe that men also should have the choice to pursue a career or be a stay at home dad
  5. I believe that females should have the same educational opportunities as men
  6. I believe that men and women, and all people, should be granted the same rights
