Insider Secrets to Effective Public Speaking
Experiential Preaching
God Has Given Each of Us the Keys to Change Lives
1) Transparent Witnessing
Not just being open about our weaknesses, but also using them to bring people into identification, hope for change and repentance.
To see transparent witnessing simply as interspersed stories of personal transparency mixed into our messages may slightly miss the point. Effective transparent witnessing is messages actually based on our stories (experiences). Stories always help keep people's attention but if the message is not based on them it does not necessarily bring identification, conviction (hope) and repentance. In essence, it is the stories that do the teaching. So I believe that the goal is not to teach but to impart when doing Impartational Ministry. Teaching happens, but only secondarily.
2) Giving Three Part Testimonies in Our Messages
When I can share what my weakness was, what God did to heal me and what the good fruit is today I establish authority (I earn the right to share with others). I am no longer "teaching" but sharing out of what God has done in me.
I saw this the most in China. It was the key that God gave me to minister to the board members of a denomination of 10 million believers who had all been in jail for their faith. What could I possibly say to these men? All I could do was share my experiences, my testimonies. It took away all fear because I was no longer there to "teach" them something. To a large extent, I think our testimonies are all we really have. To "teach" someone something almost by definition implies superiority.
To me this means three parts to every message or testimony. So people identify, receive hope (faith change is possible) and move into repentance.
Conclusion
I believe everyone has stories; they may just need some help discovering them. If someone does not have a story maybe they have yet to have an experience. This will set you apart from other speakers.

- I have personally been touched deeply by Robert's inpartational sharing. It is a powerful teaching tool that moves the message from the brain to the heart. As he shared with us his own healing of core childhood issues, we could begin to confront our own weaknesses openly and feel safe in doing so.

- I love the idea of using stories to connect with people, because everyone can relate to stories of tragedy or loss or hope. It also reassures me that everyone has something to share -- your experiences are what qualify you to share about the kingdom of God.
