Why is "the dance" captivating for so many people?
What are the benefits of dancing? Is it an act you participate in just to pass time during the week-end or, possibly, a week night? Do you dance so you can feel beautiful and graceful for a change, or does it hold something of more value for you?
If so, what is so important about the act of dancing? Of course, it's a form of entertaining exercise but why is it so captivating? Why do you crave "the dance?"
Why do you dance when music gets into your soul? Why does dancing make you laugh out loud, sometimes, then lean in closely toward your dance partner at other times?
Furthermore, what is so special about dancing with someone you love, or even dancing with a stranger? Why does your baby experience much delight when you sway around the room listening to various types of music? Why do you get excited about an event and dance for joy?
This lens will explore some of the great important benefits which abound for dancers, regardless of whether they dance professionally or for fun, regardless of their ages.

Go to the movies
Kelsey-Budden-16 says:
Honestly, I could say both. I don't know how to dance but...I could learn. I do like movies though. Move theaters are alright.
I like movies at home though. Especially if you have a nice wide big screen TV. If that was the case, you could pop a movie in and snuggle in. ;-)
That's always the best! :-)

I enjoy dancing in private; however, I could never imagine being a private dancer. If the right circumstances presented themselves, I may not mind dancing in public.
However, for the time being, I'd have to say I prefer going to the movies - especially dramas or martial arts films. I know it may sound crazy but, on the few times I do go to movie theaters and watch martial arts films, I leave the theater in a dream cloud; I feel I'm able to slay any dragon I come across. It is a wonderful feeling, though. :)

Expression
Dancing allows people to express how they feel at a given moment.Anyone observing a mother swaying around her house - with her baby tucked safely in her arms - knows she is experiencing a moment of intense love for her baby, while exercising a tender embrace.
When a couple is dancing to a slow song and they look into each others' eyes as they smile, it's not difficult to realize they feel strong emotions for each other, whether it's love or lust.
On another note, dance appears to be an expression of art, in that it appeals to the emotions of a person, or group of people.
For example, a girl who pirouettes across a stage while performing ballet appears graceful and elegant to many people, thus emotionally appealing.
A woman who dances slowly in the arms of a man she loves seems enchanted, which brings happiness and, for some people, tears of joy.
Break-dancing involves fluidity of movement which cheers the crowd.
Synchronized background dancers - dancers performing the same moves at the same time - create excitement and enthusiasm which livens up a crowd of people, especially if dancing to upbeat music.
However, an important point to remember is that, just because many people enjoy the sights or dance performances they witness, it doesn't mean everyone is affected the same way. People interpret messages differently and, as a result, their emotional responses will differ.
As an example, let's re-visit the little ballet dancer mentioned above. While most of the audience may be enthralled with her graceful performance, for a mother looking on who has lost her daughter, there may be a feeling of sorrow mingled with the joy and awe of the moment.
People can dance almost anywhere...at any time.
People dance in many places such as nightclubs, in studios, at weddings, and on the street. They dance at home and, sometimes, at the work place. Some people even try to dance in their vehicles, though it isn't something that would be recommended.
Of course, there are some types of dancing that children and teens - and adults like myself - should not be privy to but, for most types of dance, there are few restrictions imposed as to where a person can dance and the style of dance they choose.

Unity
People enjoy time spent together in a positive, upbeat environment. They cheer for, or appreciate, other dancers in their midst. The more adventurous dancers may try to emulate the moves of others, which provides another sense of entertainment and draws people together.
Strangers have potential to become friends, while families and friends bond more closely because of the positive experiences they've shared.
Relaxation
Dancing helps bodies, and minds, relax as the music and surroundings take people away from their anxiety and frustration for a while.
Mentally, they unwind and have fun, sharing a laugh or two. As their minds relax, their bodies follow. Their muscles loosen up and tension and stress melts away.
Dance as part of your life
When answering this question, it doesn't matter if you dance by yourself when no one is looking, dance with your child, or dance publicly...
Entertainment
*********************************
When people are laughing and trying to keep up with the moves involved in line-dancing, they are being entertained. Often, if they are new at line-dancing, they are providing entertainment for others.
However, their willingness to get on the floor and join in with the others, regardless of whether they embarrass themselves, says a lot. They have lots of energy, spunk, and determination, and they are willing to prove it on the dance floor.
Exercise
As bodies really feel the benefit of a workout during the cool down period, it's a good practice to have a few moments to cool down after dancing, especially if at a fast pace.
Gradually stretch out leg and arm muscles or, at the very least, sit in a chair and totally relax while rolling the neck slowly around, and then in a slow back and forth motion to release tension which may have built up in the back of the neck.
A great benefit of exercise is that, afterwards, there is, generally, improvement in a person's disposition so it's a win-win situation all the way around.

- Hi Norma,
I do 2 classes at my local Health Club - Bodyjam which is aerobic exercise dancing to modern music from Shirley Bassey, through Hip Hop, Michael jackson, Shakira etc - and a Dance class where the type changes each month, includes Belly Dancing, Irish, Bhangra, Bollywood, Jive, Latin, etc. Great fun, sociable, gets the blood and the lymph moving and lifts your mood.

- Dancing can be fun. :) You feel like your loose and you can relax. Some dances maybe hard at first, but you can always learn them! Like I do when I go out. It's a lot of fun if you give it time! :D
There are different dances, Cha-cha, Waltz, Slow, Fast, and more. I can't really name all of them. I don't think anybody can. LOL!
You know those dances you see on movies? When teens are in a dance competition or just having fun at a club or something. When the girl shakes her thang and the guy is right behind her. That can be fun. :P
Hehe, there is also the slow dance where couples enjoy a nice relaxing dance. Friends could do it too, but they might find it awkward. So, it's usually couples that slow dance. It's like your hugging each other and just spinning around and around. I don't know how they do it. Seriously! It looks romantic but I don't know. It also looks difficult. Haha!
I don't know how to describe other dances, but I'm pretty sure they are fun to learn.
Toodles!!
