How To Improve Baseball Bat Speed
Unless you're a great pitcher, knowing how to improve baseball bat speed is important to your long term success in baseball. The old saying in competitive baseball, "If you wanna play you gotta hit" still rings true today. By the time you get to High School ball you must hit, and hit consistently, to play on a regular basis. Bat speed is not the only part of good hitting. But it might make the difference between hitting a three bouncer to the infield and a hard line drive through the hole. Get bat speed.
You know who they are.
The players who always hit the ball hard.
They are the ones at the plate that coaches and scouts stop to take notice. And in most cases the fielders will take a step or two backwards. By the time you reach college level baseball it seems every player hits the ball with authority, most times for an out, but they hit the ball hard and put it into play. You don't have to be 6' 4" to hit the ball hard, but you do have to improve baseball bat speed to hit the ball hard enough to shorten the opponent's reaction time. Even if you line drive the ball right to a fielder, consistently hitting the ball hard builds your confidence and you become a better hitter. Hit the ball hard. Hitting Tips
Different hitting coaches teach different hitting tips, a lot depending on your abilities and level of play. I remember seeing young players being taught to "squish the bug", a great technique at that age to help rotate the hips and get the lower body moving. Coaching to be confident at the plate with no fear of the ball is good advice but sometimes difficult to achieve at a young age. "See the ball, hit the ball" has more meaning than just encouragement to keep your eye on the ball, your head must be in the right position to see the ball while maintaining a level swing. And who could forget the 1-2-3 approach, "ready, load, step and swing"? All good instruction depending on what level of play is involved. Need power hitting.
Ability
Play to you own ability
Practice, practice, practice is the basic key to success in anything worthwhile. Along with practice I believe the best coaching advice I've heard is "play to your own ability", particularly when given to young players. How many times have you seen a batter come to the plate after the player before them hit a home run and almost come out of their shoes swinging as hard as they could at the first pitch? Chances are their effort was beyond their ability to see the ball and control the bat to make a level swing. The key is to play within your own ability. Through practice and learning how to improve baseball bat speed your ability will grow and you'll drive the ball harder and farther. The internet has many good websites available to improve baseball bat speed.
