Improve Conversation Skills and Make Small Talk

How well do you do in conversations? Improving your conversation skills is a strong investment in your future. Every company wants employees with good communication skills and none without. Having good conversation skills means more chances at success at work and also more friends. Good communication is the "secret" to every relationship.

The key to a good conversation is to listen.

A great way to get started is to join a conversation in a group. Pay attention to what people around you are saying and then respond with your opinions. You may have many interesting thoughts you want to share but you need to know when to join the conversation and when to listen. If you listen and pay close attention to what people are saying, you will feel what is important to them and not just you. For a conversation to take place you need a willingness to let others share what is important to them.

Ask Good Questions to get Engaged in Conversation

Ask Good Questions!Good questions are open ended and allow the other person to share their thoughts. An open ended question will draw the other person into your conversation as one question leads to another. While the other person is talking, nod your head and smile to the person to show you are interested in the conversation and are paying attention. Do not interrupt them while they talk.

People underestimate the importance of "small talk". It can actually help bridge conversations in awkward situations like if you run into the CEO in the elevator!

Small talk can be so nerve wrecking for me. I'm always anxious about what to say next so I normally just clam up.

When improving your communication skills, eye to eye contact is also important and making your voice clear and loud as much as possible. So, when you ask a date with your special someone, she can't refuse. :D
