Step 1: Keyword Research For Better Search Engine Ranking

Now the first step and the most tedious step to an improved search engine ranking, is the keyword research. From my years spent on trying to improve search engine rankings, the keyword research part is the most important part out of this whole process that I am going to reveal to you. So you need to pay close attention to this particular step and make sure that you do everything that I tell you to do. If you make a mistake with your keyword research, you will mess up all of your chances to improve search engine ranking for your website. So make sure you properly do this step.

    1. Come up with a list of between 20 to 50 different search queries (keywords) that you want a higher and better search engine ranking for. Do this activity first without using any of the online keyword tools. These words represent the words and phrases that a browser would type into the search box at Google, Yahoo, or MSN. Try to come up with long tail keyword phrases - 3 to 4 word phrases.

Example: ' improve search engine ranking ' or ' better search engine ranking '

Sidenote: It can take a lot of time to brainstorm and write down up to 50 different long tail keywords. But the results are well worth it. The keywords that you come up with are the same keywords that any other human who is interested in the topic would type in the search box.

But let me be honest and let you know that there is a very powerful tool that generates a nice database of these long tail keywords that humans type into the search engines. You can try this tool for only $1 now by clicking here.

    2. Find out how many people actually search for the long tail keywords you gathered. This is known as the search demand. The greater the demand, the better or more valuable the keyword. I usually try to narrow down my keyword list towards the keywords that provide at least 30 searches per day, or 900 searches per month. This is the minimum demand that I will go for. If a keyword does not provide 30 or more searches a day, then I will erase it off of my list. Why? Well my goal is to improve search engine ranking for those keywords that generate decent amounts of daily traffic and searches. It's the keywords that get decent amounts of traffic that I will want to focus my time and energy on in order to get a better search engine ranking.

You can use the Wordtracker Free Keywords Tool to figure out the demand for your keywords. Just type in your long tail keywords into this tool. Then write down the daily search amount for each keyword. Cross out the keywords that provide less than 30 searches per day.

But the tool that I mentioned prior will usually knock out this step as well as the first step within a matter of seconds. I highly recommend this tool if you desire to maintain your search engine rankings after you get them. You can try this tool for $1 right now by clicking here.

    3. The final part of this keyword research section involves figuring out how many web pages you have to compete with in order to secure top rankings for each of your keywords. In order to find the number of competing web pages for that long tail keyword, just go to the Google search engine, type in the keyword within quotes in the search box, and observe the results or the number of pages that come up for that particular keyword. You want to focus your attention around those keywords that have less than 100,000 competing web pages in Google when you type that keyword phrase within quotes in the search box.

If the number of competing pages for a particular keyword is too high, then don't even waste your time trying to get higher search engine ranking for that keyword. With all of the competition, you'll most likely generate little traffic with this keyword.

But I am usually okay with using a keyword that has no more than 200,000 competing web pages in Google if it is a very popular keyword. If the search demand is extremely good for that keyword, than I am willing to compete against 200,000 web pages. The search demand must be over 100 searches per day in order for me to consider ranking high for this keyword phrase.

Personal Note: At this point, you should have at least 10 very good keywords with decent search volume and low competition. These 10 long tail keywords are the phrases that we are going to improve search engine ranking for. Our goal for all 10 of these keywords is to rank in the top 5 of the search results.

Step 2: Create Keyword Optimized Content For Better Search Engine Ranking

After you've finished selecting your keywords, then you need to write quality content around those keywords. If you selected 10 keywords, then you need to write 10 unique articles that are optimized for each keyword. In other words, if one of my keywords were ' improved search engine ranking ' then I would write one article around this particular long tail keyword. I would make sure that I would sprinkle this keyword through out the article so that I would have a keyword density of 2% to 3% for that keyword. The keyword density is the amount of times that keyword appears for every 100 words. So, if you wrote a 100 word article, then make sure the keyword that you want to improve search engine ranking for is at least mentioned 2 to 3 times in that article.

Sidenote: To easily figure out the keyword density for all the content you create, you can use this free tool at http://www.live-keyword-analysis.com . It can save you a lot of time.

So here is what you need to do in a nutshell.

    1. Write keyword optimized articles for every long tail keyword that you want to receive higher search engine ranking for. If after your keyword research, you've come up with 10 long tail keywords that have a decent search volume and low competition, then focus on creating 10 articles that are optimized for each of those keywords. [ the last sentence is a huge run-on sentence!] Make sure the content has at least a 2% keyword density.

    2. Place each of your 10 articles on a separate web page. Make sure you name the file extension of that web page after the specific keyword that it is optimized for. In other words, if I had 2 keywords 'improve search engine rankings' and 'better search engine rankings', then I will name my files as:

    .../improve-search-engine-rankings.html
    .../better-search-engine-rankings.html

    3. Make sure that each of your web pages have a custom title and description that is related to the keyword it is optimized for. When doing on-page optimization, there are 2 areas or parts of your web page that you need to focus on. These 2 parts are meta tags that must be optimized around the keyword. These 2 very important meta tag areas are:

    - The Title Tag : Whatever you put within the title tag will be the actual title of the webpage. It is the most important meta tag for search engine ranking in my opinion. But you want to make sure the long tail keyword that you are targeting for that webpage is included within this title tag. It is very wise to include the keyword at the beginning of the title of the page.

    - Meta Description Tag: All the search engines do read this tag so you may want to optimize the description of this tag around the long tail keywords you are focusing on. Do not use the same meta description for each and every webpage you create. You must come up with a completely different description that is targeted around the particular web page's long tail keyword. So if you have 10 web pages that are optimized for ten different keywords, then you need ten different meta descriptions that focus on each pages long tail keyword. A solid rule of thumb is to make sure your description does not exceed 200 to 250 characters.

Step 3: Building Popularity For Higher Search Engine Rankings

Now that you have your web pages optimized and set up, it is now time to win the popularity contest. Google and the rest of the search engines rank your site according to how popular your website is. Therefore, if you want a better search engine ranking, then you need to be the most popular. So what do I mean? Well, popularity, according to the search engines, is based on how many websites link to you. So the more websites that link to you, the more popular and better rankings your website will receive in the search engines.

Listed below are a few methods that I use to rapidly build links to each of the optimized web pages on my website. Make sure you follow this linking strategy precisely because this part determines whether or not you will see good rankings within 30 days.

Linking Method 1

Acquire One Way Links By Submitting To Online Web Directories

The first linking method I usually venture into involves submitting my website to hundreds of web directories. This method is a very popular way for obtaining hundreds, sometimes even thousands of one way back links to your website.

But due to their being thousands of web directories that you can submit to, I usually use special software to get this done for me.

The software I currently use contains around 1700 website directories, all free. It is the most uncomplicated program that I've come across, in that all you need to do is:

1. Enter your website details (i.e. title, description, URL, etc.) into the software.

2. Click on the directory you want to submit to

And then the program will automatically fill in your website details. Then, you simply click the submit button and your website is immediately submitted to the directory. Then, you can progress to the next directory. Just go through the entire list of 1700 directories, and by the time you're finished you'll have nearly 1500 one way links pointing to your website.

I can't imagine a simpler way to acquire links. By the way, if you're going to get one way links this rapidly, it's important to make changes to your website title (anchor text) every 20-30 links or so, to make things appear more natural to the search engines.

Linking Method 2: PR Distribution

Improve Search Engine Ranking With Press Releases

A Press release is a rarely used "backdoor" for not only getting into the search engines quickly, but for acquiring hundreds of one way links from news media sites. Some of these news media sites are considered by Google as authority sites, therefore they usually pass a lot of page rank and value to your website. It is these types of authority sites that really give you a nice boost in the search engines and that higher search engine ranking that we all desire.

When submitting press releases, you can easily use prweb.com and pay up to $80 per press release that is submitted. That is how much you should be paying if you want decent media exposure for your website and business via PR Web. But you can cut this cost down tremendously by grabbing software that will automate the entire press release submission process. I have used 2 different press release distribution software and both of them have provided awesome results. So I have no favorites when it comes to which software you should choose.
