Improve Your Page Rank for Free
Ranked #8,350 in Internet, #368,599 overall
We All Want Page One!
In this lens, I won't promise you page one. That will be up to how much time you spend following up on these suggestions as well as the keywords you choose. However, I am going to share with you how to vastly improve your page rank for free. I will also write about some things you need to consider before you choose a subject.
The Research
It all starts here...

Let's talk first about your website and the research that should go into it. If you have not yet built your website, here are some steps you want to take before you do. First, it is important to be passionate AND knowledgeable about your subject. Second, that passion needs to be balanced by your research on keyword terms using one of the tools available for free online such as AdWords by Google. (Note: There are many other online tools out there. If you are using another one, that is fine too). For instance, your passion may be sharks but if you intend to make money on a website using just the keyword "sharks", you are going to have a harder time moving up to page one. Let's take a look at it and understand why it's going to be a more difficult task.
I am going to start from the beginning. Here is a snapshot from Google Adwords above.
1. Make sure you have a Google account.
2. Sign up for an AdWords account. It's free. You can do this without having an account but you can save things for reference later if you have one.
3. Go into your Adwords account and click on Tools and the Analysis drop down and then Keyword Tools.
AdWords Results

If you enter in our search term, "sharks" you will see that there are a lot of searches on that term alone. The screenshot shows about 11,000 per month. That's very good because it indicates that people are searching for this term an average of 11,000 per month. You also see the word "Low" in the Competition column. I do not use that and I will show you why. Click on the word "sharks" and a new internet window will open to a Google search with your search "sharks". Look just below the search term and you will see a number. That number indicates how many pages are out there on that search term. So, for this term, there are more than 90,000 pages. That's a lot to overcome. Remember, how on the previous page it said our competition was Low? Well, in Google world, that may be low but we want to do better than this. We need to build a website with keywords that will put usp up in page rank a bit faster and if we have 90,000 pages already written on that search term alone, it's going to be an uphill battle.
So, how do we compete and still write about our subject? We have to get creative. Go back to your AdWords account and look down the page, you will see other related terms. Perhaps you can use one of those? Keep moving back and forth through the list until you find something you can work with that is less competitive. You may want to try searching on a more specific term such as "shark history" or "shark teeth" or "great white". These will help you continue to build your website on the preferred subject rather than abandoning it completely.
Next, we will start to discuss ways to move our existing site up in page rank.
The Budget is Small
The Budget is Zero?
Most people start out with a very small budget when creating their website. There really is no reason to sink a lot of marketing money into moving your site up in page rank and here are the reasons:1. If you pay a company that claims they will take your website to page 1 within a quick turnaround, there is a problem. Google does not like the use of automated processes to force their way to the top. If that happens, Google will slap the site and it can be a huge detriment to your business.
2. If you pay a company that offers to do this slowly, over a given amount of time, they are probably doing it the correct way. My question then becomes, "if they can do it, why can't you do it?". This allows you to learn it so that if you ever want to grow your business, you know exactly what to do.
3. If someone promises to get you to page 1 for free, watch out. It's most likely a scam. Hold on to your first born child and your wallet. They will be asking for money later.
Website promotions and marketing are like anything else: there are no get rich quick programs. It all takes time and effort. Either you work on it or you need to have someone else do it. The good news is this - there are some great free tools out there to help you along the way and they do not eat up a lot of your time.
Just a Little at a Time
Start moving your website up in page rank by visiting the website listed in the link box above. Click on Free Web Directories on the left which will bring you to a list of hundreds of sites that allow you to list your website. Some of these will require reciprocal links and although it says free, some of them will want payment. Simply skip those. You only want to submit your site to the ones that are free. You can choose reciprocal links if you have built a place for that into your site.Submit less than 10 a day. Make sure you check your email box because many will want confirmations in order to activate the account. Continue to work through the free web site list, getting as close to 400 as you can. Many of your submissions will take months to be reviewed and to take effect. Plan to be patient with your work and you will see your website's page rank increase.
While you are working through your submissions, continue to write lenses about your subject and continue to add relevant content to your website so that it stays fresh and updated. This will help your visitors stay on your website longer when they visit.
