Improvements in the standard of living at fault for damage of the Environment

Ranked #7,687 in Culture & Society, #158,020 overall

Damage of the Environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the standard of living

We are a powerful race - our tiny hands can, will and already have changed the whole planet. Our need to constantly improve the quality of our lives has brought this world to, as some like to call it, its last stand. Everything we do has a consequence, and sadly most of those consequences are depicted in the well-being (or the lack of it, in this case) of our planets' environment. The main problem is that, to find a proper solution and follow through with it, people have to make certain sacrifices which would cut down on the quality of their lives, and that is something a lot of us just do not find acceptable.
The main problem lies in energy - the creation of it and its byproducts. Most of the energy we use comes from fossil fuels, which contain a lot of hazardous substances (i.e. sulphur/sulfur). Basically everything runs on energy, and there are not a lot of environmental-friendly ways to produce it. For example, even the production of hydro energy has an effect on the Earth, because it disturbs the natural water flow. And we can not just expect people to stop using/producing energy, because there are far too few things in life that do not run on it, for this to ever be possible.
Our planet can not afford to suffer like this for too long - the consequences are beginning to show. We have to find new ways to live our lives as eco friendly as possible because the world has already been damaged enough. We have already damaged our beloved home planet irreversibly. I'm not trying to sound gloomy but all we can do now is try to change our lifestyle enough to make the consequences that are in store for us less severe.

If all of us reduce just a little bit of our carbon emission then the total benefit to our planet would be unimaginable. An interesting lens.

Excess materialism does have its consequences. Eventually we'll all be held responsible karmically. The general consciousness of the planet is moving up; it might be heartening to know that we are slowly but surely taking responsibility. The earth/world does naturally recycle itself over the eons, it comes and goes, like breathing in and out.
