There are many contractors out there that do not take full advantage of the chance they have for mobile marketing. Not only is it marketing that moves, it's marketing that's on the move.

Here are some tips to help improve your mobile marketing:

Large Logos For Your Vehicle

Using large logos should be an obvious choice everyone, but considering the number of trucks out there with 5" high lettering, obviously it's not. Contractors sometimes purchase the smaller decals in order to try and save money. This can be a mistake. By purchasing larger decals, you make more of an impact and your trucks can be seen from farther away.

Be Bold With Your Font

You want to be unique but that doesn't mean you need to get too artistic or lavish with your lettering. Script or fancy lettering may appear stylish but it can hardly be read from afar. A logo or lettering with a bold, heavy font will be more visible from a greater distance.

Select Your Color Carefully

Color adds accent, but only when utilized correctly. Your logo would not stand out as much if all the lettering were the same color. Be careful though, too much color can be unappealing and will get your vehicle noticed for all the wrong reasons. Unless you are a member of the Partridge Family, your company vehicle should not look like their tour bus.

Outlines, Backrounds, and Shadows

Outlines and backgrounds add contrast. Contrast is one of the basic elements of graphic design. Just by outlining your logo or filling in the white space you add contrast. This draws the eye and makes your logo more noticeable.

Shadows will give your logo dimension. They also add contrast and make the logo stand out on the truck.

UPPERCASE vs. Lowercase

From the start we are taught to read and write using upper and lower case letters. It's how books, newspapers, and magazines are printed. It's how we are used to reading. It can be difficult to read text that is all UPPER CASE TEXT. It is much easier to read upper and lower case text.

Different Color Vehicles

With a multitude of white service vans out there, trucks with a different color stand out. Should you decide to move in this direction, you will need to plan ahead and pre-order them, but they will make a statement. If people begin to relate the truck color with your company, then every time they see a truck with that specific color the subconscious will connect it with your company, even if it's too far away for them to make out the logo on the vehicle.

Get Your Phone Number Out There

Believe me, no one will remember the phone number on your truck. At least, no one will remember the numeric phone number (i.e., 555-1234) . However, they might remember an alpha number (i.e., GET - HEAT). This may mean changing your entire identity program if you can't get a phone number that relates with your company name.

The graphics that the majority of contractors use for their trucks are useless. Usually, it's something boring like a light bulb or snowflake. Make your graphics bold and unique. Just make sure that the graphics on your service vehicle tie into the graphics that you have used elsewhere in your marketing.

Is there some feature about your company that is distinctive or stands out? If so, then make a claim. If not, find some ground that has been unspoken for and claim it. Then, promote it on your service vehicles.

Green Driving Tips

Smaller vehicles and higher labor rates are just a few of the ways contractors are grappling with the price of gasoline. When multiplied by the number of vehicles in a company's fleet, even saving just a few gallons of gas every week can add up to a substantial savings at the end of the year.

Install or purchase a GPS. You will save both time and gas if you know exactly where you are going.

If possible, have the technicians go straight to their job site without having to stop bt the shop first.

Group your service calls in the same area. Traveling back and forth between long distances is senseless.

Make sure service vehicles are properly maintained. A tune-up can increase fuel economy. Check tires, breaks, and fluids.

Schedule fewer trips to your supply house. Make sure trucks are properly stocked with the more commomly used parts you will need.
