Easiest way to improve gas mileage
Stop speeding, start saving
The easiest way to improve your gas mileage doesn't involve a special accessory or tool, or anything at all for that matter. The easiest way to cut your MPG is changing your mindset. Although these tips won't give very noticeable results like the kit mentioned above will, you'll still notice a difference in your mileage. Here are some tips to increase your mileage:- Save don't speed.
Pressing the gas pedal to the floor just so you can pump the break seconds later isn't sensible driving. Avoid accelerating too fast, and never exceed 70 MPH (your mpg plummets at this point.) Aggressive driving can cause your MPG to plummet up to 35%.
- Avoid Extensive idling at red-lights.
If you just stopped at an intersection and you know it's a long light, you can save some gas by turning off your car. This is only worth it if the light will be red longer than 25 seconds.
- Utilize Cruise Control
On a highway or interstate, make sure you use Cruise Control. It will surely save you mileage.
- Make use of Overdrive!
Most cars have a feature called "Over Drive" that lowers your engine speed and saves Gas. This will also reduce wear to your engine.
