Always plan ahead, have a good list of poses and portraits that you absolutely must get (bride's choice, of course). It's easy to think you know of all the great moments at a wedding that you want to shoot but it's very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the day and overlook some very important wedding photos.

You also need to remember that some shots need to be taken at a certain time - you absolutely must get photos of the cake before it's sliced, of the reception hall before everyone fills it up and blocks the decorations, and so on.

You can also improve your wedding photos by being a bit creative. When you pose the couple don't just have them looking right at the camera but have them look at each other or share a kiss.

Even wedding photos of the couple walking away can express the idea that they're walking toward their new life together. Make the wedding photos special for each bride.

Play up your angles as well. Get up on a chair to get a picture of the wedding cake from up high rather than straight on.

Zoom in on one particular corner of the cake, on the bride's bouquet, the groom's lapel, or some other important detail. Remember that you can't get everything in every one of your wedding photos and some should concentrate and focus on those small details rather than trying to fit in everything.

You can also practice your wedding photos even when you're not at a wedding. Get use to carrying your camera around with you. Make it part of your wardrobe. Most people thought I was born with a camera in my hand. Choose some objects around the house you can use as practice and play up different angles.

Practice taking action shots or have some friends pose in your yard so you can pretend these are poses for your wedding photos.

Keep doing this and you'll notice that your photos improve greatly when you are at the weddings you have coming up in your future.
