The IMSA Camel GT series has been created by John Bishop in 1971. This series was the best road racing series ever in the US. In 1972, Reynolds Tobacco Inc. brought a welcome support to the staff, and the IMSA Camel GT Challenge became a major American championship. Many top drivers as well as many top teams entered the series which drawn a 120 car entry at the end of 1971!
The moto : "Racing with a difference" was well proven and the GT concept did act as a magnet for the many spectators. The schedule included many international venues from 1973 with the 12 Hours of Sebring and 1975 with the famous 24 Hours of Daytona. The series evolved with the years but John and Peggy Bishop proved extremely reactive and adapted to every situation.
I am an IMSA Camel GT fan and I really want to do my best to share this passion.
