When you are in a public place, around other people, look at the couples nearby. Can you tell which ones are married and which ones may be dating?

If you are at a park, a restaurant, a fast food place, the beach, or even a grocery store (ok, not many couples there), notice their interactions with each other.

So often the married couples are not that into each other. So when you see a couple that look like they are in love, you just assume that they must be dating or newlyweds. So, now ask yourself, "How do we look when observed by others?".

Of course, there can be exceptions, but for the most part, in general, if you have been married several years, do you still have the interaction of a couple that is still, obviously, very much in love? Can observers tell you are in love? Or can they tell you would rather be somewhere else?

Time and again, I notice couples that barely speak to one another, or barely make eye contact. Hardly ever smile or laugh together. Does it have to be that way? Isn't it refreshing to see a couple married many years carrying on like they are newlyweds. It is so easy to get in a rut.

Yet, it is not hopeless, if you find you are in that situation. If both of you are willing to work on it, love can be rekindled. And you girls, don't just assume that he is not going to come around, because "he's a guy". He may not be as willing as you, but few guys want to be told they are on the road to a future divorce. Most guys are a little clueless about their relationship status. Guys, too often, just assume you both will be together for the long haul, come what may. But, sadly in today's world, that just isn't the case without work at preserving a marriage from both of you.

So find ways to convince him that you need to work on your relationship. Tell him you want to be married to him forever and that is why it is so important to work on it. Tell him you love him every day, in different ways. Saying "I love you", often. Give him a card.

My wife gave me a card recently with a beautiful expression of how much she loved me and how happy she was. It was very touching. I really appreciated it. But I did not say much more than thank you. But I have thought of it often and read it over more than once (when she wasn't looking). The point is, I guess, I'm a guy, and though I did not say much outwardly, inside, it was very touching.

So realize this when you are doing your part to tell him in different ways, that you love him. It will likely mean much more to him than he will let on. While it is true, both need to work on it, if you do your part, you may be surprised at his reaction.
