Girl Scouts,Paperboys & Young Mormon Men...

Ranked #2,135 in Education, #51,349 overall

What do they have in common?

All go door to door either selling cookies selling news papers or selling Jesus and this is putting these children in danger there is nothing wrong with incentive sales unless we have our kids going door to door alone !! We teach don't talk to strangers so why are these kids going door to door ? this is where we should not take chances it's not worth the sales.

1973 Joan D'Alessandro

On Thursday, April 19, 1973 Joan D'Alessandro, a joyful, brave, seven-year old Brownie Scout was delivering Girl Scout cookies to her neighbor when she disappeared. A high school chemistry teacher who lived three doors down later plead guilty to her murder .

What a pretty little girl it hurts the heart sometimes when you know she went through something so terrible something that should have never happened but it did because she went door to door as a Brownie scout and her predator just waited for her to come back with the cookies

This is more dangerous than we think there's just too many predators this one was a chemistry teacher this just shows us it can be anyone that can do these crimes and it could happen to any of us what a terrible thing to go through as a parent it means we need to be more careful the days when we could leave the doors open are over so is going door to door its not safe these murdered kids prove it

Johnny Gosch And Eugene Martin

Paperboys

Both these boys disappeard while delivering Des Moines Iowa newspapers no bodies have been found
Johnny Gosch-sept.5,1982
Eugene Martin- Aug. 12,1984

When Johnny Gosch was 12 years of age and working as a paperboy for the Des Moines Register newspaper, he was kidnapped not far from his home. It was a quiet Sunday morning, around 6A.M. on September 5, 1982, when Johnny had left his home on foot to collect his assigned stack of newspapers to deliver as he was about to pick up his bundle of newspapers, he was forcefully nabbed off the street, shoved into the back seat of a strange car, drugged, and permanently removed from his family. Johnny's childhood would be destroyed while his family was shattered and consigned to a life of endless grieving...

On August 12, 1984, Eugene left his home at approximately 5 a.m. to deliver the Des Moines Register newspaper in the Des Moines area. He normally delivered the papers with his older stepbrother, but on this day went alone. Between 5:45 and 6:05 a.m., he was seen folding papers and talking to a white male "about the age of his father" on the corner a few blocks from his home When customers called to report not receiving their morning newspapers, the manager went out, found the bag and delivered the papers.

Eugene Martin has not been seen since

Missionary Map

On a mission

They were missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints - the Mormons Church elders had ordered them to stop seeing Bob Kleasen because they feared he bore a grudge...their elders tried to warn them because they knew how Bob Kleasen was but these young men thought they could change this mans ways what a shock at human nature it was for them! they saw a monster in human form they knew that they should have listened to the warning.. this story really bothers me alot

Young Missionaries

Mark Fischer

Despite no bodies a massive circumstantial evidence linked Robert Kleasen to the Mormon's murder, by his trailer detectives found an ID badge with a bullet through it, inside the trailer they found their blood stained watches and apartment keys

Gary Darley

The bodies of Gary Darley, 20, and Mark Fischer, 19, who had vanished after agreeing to have supper with Kleasen but Kleasen says supper never happened and they have never been found ..Human remains belonging to Mr Darley and Mr Fischer were found on the saw...

Looking at that beautiful map they have these young men knocking and selling Jesus most are very nice men all dressed up, One Missionary that came to my door told me they leave home for a couple years going door to door in different states to preach the bible but now I know they put themselves in danger as they knock on doors world wide.

Robert Klease was sentenced to death but was later freed on a technicality.

Introduction
About a year after arriving in Texas in 1993 as an attorney, I chanced upon newspaper reports of the 1974 incredibly brutal murders of young Mormon missionaries Gary Darley and Mark Fischer. I recalled hearing about them years earlier in my own LDS congregation when the news first broke, and started investigating the case with an eye toward an article or two. The more I dug, however, the more compelling and heart-rending the story became. Stories, actually, of alleged murderer Bob Kleasen's mental illness and pathetic life, of well-meaning Mormons responding to troubled new converts, of loving families dealing with unimaginable loss, and of a tortuous death penalty case.

Even though there seems to be little doubt Kleasen was the killer, his conviction was reversed on appeal and he was never retried. As a lawyer who specializes in death row cases, I was particularly interested in how the criminal justice system responded to such a situation. All of this clearly added up, I felt, to a story worth reading

Important!

One good thing that I am seeing now days more often is the scouts with their mothers are selling cookies in front of busy stores which is much much safer I am happy for them!

These stories taught me that going door to door is not safe any more for our children as these kids found out in horrible ways ! these stories are very sad but true ..But what can we learn from these kids ? what do they tell us by what happened to them ?? That humans can not always be trusted that's for sure !

What a great idea to have your dad ( or mom ) go with you for your personal safety!

One reason we still do this is because the returns are higher going door-to-door than standing in front of stores. People ignore you at the store, and internet sales are easier to ignore. I can make 8-10 sales an hour going door-to-door, but only 3-4 standing at a store. My dad takes me away from our home neighborhood to do sales and walks with me. This helps with my personal security.

It's a scary world now, and I can't understand how people can send their kids, alone, door to door...even if it is a neighbor. We'll still sell cookies to those we know, but I am always going to be there (she's 9, I don't care what the Girl Scouts advise). I carry, so, if someone tries to surprise us, they'll be in for one as well.

    Nice lens!

Thanks for this lens ..... I don't think a lot of people really understand or realize just how much bad stuff can happen when sending kids door to door. Knowledge is power so this is a good way to raise awareness.

On A Personal Note

In reality predators have always been here and they will always be here so it's up to us as parents to protect our children as best as we can by us knowing that the boogeyman is alive living among us in our neighborhood knowing this makes us more careful .. worse yet as soon as it turns dusk that's when they come out the most !! children should not be walking alone especially at night ! Don't walk alone at night even if you live in a nice neighborhood.
