Getting Traffic from your Comments

Commenting on other's blogs can be a good way to let others know your blog exists, and can be a great way to start branding your blog.

Why should you comment to increase traffic to your blog, site or lens?

1. The more available links you have floating around the internet, the better chance you have that someone is going to visit your site.

2. Comments give you the ability to get your link on someone else's blog, just by writing a response to a post.

3. Networking. Commenting helps you build relationships with other bloggers and readers.

4. Brand building. If you comment frequently on someone's blog, the regular readers and even the blog's owner will eventually remember your name. Commenting as your blog's name will help people remember the name of your blog, thus help you build your brand.

Where should you comment?

what kind of blog's should you comment on to get the best results?

If you want to send quality traffic to your site, (which you do) you are going to want to send visitor's that would be interested in your site and would want to visit it.

To do this, you should comment on blogs that relate to yours. Commenting on an unrelated blog may send some traffic to your site, but the visitors will most likely leave within seconds. By commenting on blog's that relate to your's, you will be targeting potential vistors that should be interested in your site.

How to comment correctly

Many people abuse commenting. Comment SPAM is very frequent, and many blog owners have to moderate their comments to weed out the ones that are nothing more than an attempt to gain advertising space.

Don't misuse or abuse commenting. Take a look at some of the rules of commenting that I have come up with below.

Rules of commenting

NO SPAM

I made some rules for this test, becuase I don't want to be just another comment SPAM blaster.

1. Comments should have value and help to add-on to the post. Whether the comment is reflective, insightfull, about a personal experience that relates to the post, I'm going to aim to write comments that have value, and aren't just a quick 2 word, "good post" comment. Make it a comment that other's would WANT to read.

2. Keep it to the point. Don't write a comment that is longer than the post. In today's world, people are rushing about and seem to always be busy. Make your comment short and to the point. Say what you want to say, just keep it short and to the point.

3. No Spamming. I'm not going to post my link in the text of my comment. In my personal opinion, the only time I feel it is ok to post a link in a comment is when the link points to something related to the post that the commenter thinks would be of value for the readers of the post to see.

4. Treat their site how you would want your site to be treated. If you wouldn't want your comment to appear on your site, then don't bother writing it and putting it on their's.

5. Only place links in your comment text when it relates. The only place I'll place a link to my site is in the comment sign up boxes where I enter my name, email, and website address. The only time I place a link in the comment text, is when I want to point out something that relates to the post or builds on it.

The best way to use commenting

Commenting was created because readers want to interact with what they read. Commenting allows readers to provide input, reflect, add on, give their opinion, etc.

While you may be commenting in hopes to gain more traffic to your site, don't do it just for that reason. Enjoy it, and provide quality comments. Don't just skim the post you want to comment on and then write a, "good post" comment and click "add comment." Actually take the time to read the post, and then write an appropriate comment reflecting your opinion, thoughts, etc.

Comment on their site how you would want people to comment on yours.
