Vertical Jump Training

Vertical jump training can help with increasing your vertical leap. There are a few specific exercises that you can do which are designed to strengthen and condition muscles for improving your vertical jump. These exercises are designed to increase strength and power.

Strength exercises are slow and controlled movements and designed to improve the strength specifically in your legs and hips to achieve a higher jump. Some strength exercises are squats, lunges and step ups.

Power exercises are quick and explosive movements that are needed to give your body maximum thrust for increasing your jump. Some examples of power exercises are Side Box Jumps and Weighted Box Jumps.

Vertical Jump Exercises

Side Box Jumps are an explosive hopping and jumping drill. They involve putting an box or similar obstacle (the height of the obstacle can vary but higher will be more effective) next to you. You then proceed to jump sideways over box and then back.

Weighted box jumps are a variation of side box jumps but instead of jumping sideways you place the obstacle infront of you and jump over and back while holding weights. This exercise will condition your body so that when you jump without weights, your jump will increase dramatically.

Weighted Squats are a variation of squats which can help build strength in the legs. This is where you hold weights in your hand and squat.
