Ranked #109,492 in Healthy Living, #1,077,213 overall

Base from the National Commission on Population report, India's population is expected to reach 1.19 billion by 2011, 1.27 billion by 2016, 1.34 billion by 2021 and 1.4 billion by 2026.

By 2050, India will become the most populous country in the world and will overtake China with its population increasing to 1.53 billion.

Population Growth

At this time, with 1,345.8 million people, China is the most populated country in the world. India comes as close second at 1,198 million people.

However, China's strict family planning actions has yielded results and the rate of projected population growth between 2005 and 2010 is just 0.6%. One case mentioned about China's family planning measures was that of Zhang Linla, who committed the error of becoming pregnant when she had already given birth to a daughter. Just six days before the date she was due to give birth she was subjected to a forced abortion.

Dr D K Mangal, state coordinator of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said:
"India's population will grow for, say, another 25 years and then stabilize. We can see a decline in population after that while China had taken population control measures much ahead of us".

Fertility Rate

The fertility rates include infant mortality casualties. In India, Infant mortality casualties in the past half were more than twice as many as those in China and Brazil. The report said, while 85 males and 95 girls below five years of age died per 1,000 births in India, Brazil, 33 male children and 25 female children, and in China 25 boys and 36 girls died, and in died in the same period.

The fertility rate also includes parameters like increase in awareness about family planning and maybe people are starting to use fertility monitors like lady-comp and and other means of natural family planning.

What They Can Do

He assured "to strive to provide even higher education for health care to provide quality services to the poor households of their country."
