Climate: varies from tropical monsoon in south to temperate in north

Terrain: upland plain (Deccan Plateau) in south, flat to rolling plain along the Ganges, deserts in west, Himalayas in north

 

India is referred to as the largest democracy in the world, by virtue of the fact that it has the largest electing population among democratic countries.

India's climate is strongly influenced by the Himalayas and the Thar Desert. India is the second fastest growing major economy in the world, with a GDP growth rate of 9.1%, as of the first quarter of 2006.
