Thanksgiving Turkey Biriyani

Traditional American style Thanksgiving dinner is generally centered on a large roasted turkey. Stuffed with a bread-based stuffing and roasted turkeys are the main dish for a thanksgiving dinner. Deep-fried turkey is also rising in popularity. Sometimes, poultry native to the region where the meal is taking place is used; for example, quail is the main dish for a Texan Thanksgiving feast. In this Indian style Thanksgiving dinner we are going to prepare Turkey Biriyani with some other Indian dishes. Turkey biriyani has always been a favorite festival dish in India. Most of the restaurants in Tamil Nadu serve Turkey biriyani only in the festival seasons like Pongal, Dibawali etc., because the turkey is an uncommon bird in India. This turkey biriyani has a vibrant flavor and taste.

The name "Biriyani" is actually derived from a Persian word Berya meaning fried or roasted. Biriyani is a popular dish that is especially delectated in India. This rice based food is made with spices and meat, chicken, fish, eggs or vegetables. Full of spices and succulent mutton mixed with long-grain basmati rice, the biriyani is a preparation that can facilely be ranked among the most mouth-watering dishes available anywhere. . Its vegetarian variety in which, the mutton is substituted by a number of vegetables, is also similarly appealing and has featured in cook books the world over. It is a preferred dish for many Indians today. A very good Biriyani Recipe needs a lot of ingredients to cook and maybe a little hard and time consuming to cook. While various kinds of rice can be used to make biriyani, the favorite choice of most households is "Basmati rice" which is naturally fragrant. There are a lots of Biryani types like Mutton biriyani, Chicken Biriyani, Hyderabadi Biriyani, Iraqi Biriyani, Iranian Biriyani , Mushroom Biriyani, Malabar Biriani, Turkey Biriyani even Thai Biryani etc. etc.,, and a lot more. Turkey Biriyani Recipe »



Turkey is a bird which renowned for its taste and texture. A good biriyani is favorable for every one, and this turkey biryani is no exception! I love this turkey biriyani for its vibrant flavor and taste. Try something really different with your Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey.

Here is a recipe to make Turkey Biryani, try it for your thanksgiving dinner and enjoy the dish.





Ingredients:

♥ 1Kg turkey (medium pieces)

♥ 1 tbsp ginger paste


♥ 1/2kg basmati rice

♥ 6 nos green chilli


♥ 5 tbsp clarified butter

♥ 1 tsp turmeric powder


♥ 2 cloves

♥ 1/2 cup mint leaves


♥ 2 bay leaves

♥ 1/2 cup coriander leaves


♥ 2 tsps red chili powder

♥ 1 tsp garam masala


♥ 1 inch piece of cinnamon stick

♥ 6 medium size tomatoes finely sliced


♥ 1 tsp cumin seeds

♥ 1 cup yogurt


♥ 1 tbsp garlic paste

♥ 6 medium size onions (thinly sliced)


♥ Salt to taste

♥ 6 tbsp oil





Preparation:

Marinate turkey with yoghurt, chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt. Set aside for atleast 4 hours.

Meanwhile wash the basmati rice well and drain the water.

Add 3 tablespoons of oil in a fry pan. When oil is hot add ginger garlic paste and fry till golden brown. Now add thinly sliced onions, green chillies and fry till onion turn golden brown. Add sliced tomatoes and fry well. Add mint and coriander leaves and set aside the mixture.

Add clarified butter and oil in a fry pan, when heated add cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. Fry till brown. Now add salt, the fried mixture and the marinated mixture and fry for 30-40 minutes, till the turkey is half-cooked. Once the meat is ready, transfer this gravy in to a cooking vessel and add water and basmati rice . (Rice to water ratio must be 1:2 /the water includes the gravy from cooking the meat/). Add salt to the mixture. Let the rice cooked. Now tightly cover the vessel with a lid and keep it on a low flame. Take away the vessel from the flame exactly after 20 minutes. Your Turkey Biriyani is ready . Serve hot with curd raita.

Most Indian families enjoy curds either plain or in the form of delicious raitas as an accompaniment with lunch or dinner. A raita is a simple preparation made by adding fruits or vegetables to beaten curds to act as coolers in contrast to the hot and spicy chutneys and spicy Indian food. Raitas are unique because they are cool and spicy at the same time. Indians cherish a large variety of raitas. You can make a number of raitas with curd, such as boondi raita, vegetable raita, pineapple raita, and so on. Here is one of the Indian Raita Recipe:



Ingredients:

♥ 1 - cup Curd (not sour)

♥ 1 - tbsp chopped coriander


♥ 3 - 4 tbsp Coconut gratings

♥ 1/4 - tsp Mustard Seeds


♥ 1 - Green Chilly

♥ 1 - spring Curry leaf


♥ 1 - tsp Oil

♥ A pinch of Asafoetida


♥ 2 - inch Ginger piece (chopped)

♥ A pinch of Sugar





Preparation:

Beat the curd in to smooth paste and add the sugar.
Grind coconut grating and green chillies in to past and add with curd
Add the chopped ginger and salt
For seasoning: heat oil add mustered seeds, curry leaves and Asafoetida.
Decorate with chopped coriander and serve.
