This topoic is worth going deeper, perhaps as East vs West. There are really two spiritual paths in India. East--being Hindu, Buddist and Jain. West being Christians, Zoroastrians, and Islam. Sikhs are in between. I have done some lenses and community TV shows on related topics as sprituality and culture are linked deeply. What do you think ? Self help and mutual help. Congrads on your Squidoo trophy. Am going for my next one. Thanks.

Lovely lens, and a bit like taking a quick look through the syllabus of the entire Comparative Eastern Religions course at university (but a lot more interesting than the textbook).

Excellent lens on the diversity of religions in India. I would expect Buddhism to have more followers since it originated in India but I can also see how Islam is a popular religion considering the region. I wasn't aware how "extreme" Jainism is in following their teachings!

Shared this lens at my blog called "MY Diversity Corner". I was required to take a course in World Religions at the Catholic high school I attended in Miami, Florida. But that's been a while and I've forgotten a lot. This was a great refresher. I bookmarked it and saved in my personal folder on my home PC labeled "Faith Studies". ** http://mydiversitycorner.blogspot.com/2011/11/religions-of-india.html

I bless this lens for being exceptionally well crafted and sharing well resourced genuine information about parts of spirituality that are less known by those outside the religions listed above-- pity life is so short for learning everything about others -- not to mention about ourselves. Keep well -- I surely will come back to read more.

Beautiful lens, very well done. Its so interesting to learn of others religions and cultures. I think it doesnt matter the name of our God...we all come from the same place and shall return there, so we should all just love each other and help each other as much as we can.
  • Helenee Sep 21, 2011 @ 9:23 am | delete
Amazing lens, so well-crafted and appealing to the eyes!
I have read the Baghwath Gita (in a Greek translation) and I fell in love with some of its verses ("Who sees Me in all / and sees all in Me / for him I am not lost / and he is not lost for Me"). One of my favourite stories is the one about Narasimha, the Lion avatar - how the gods will always slip through the most tiny cracks of your supposed armour and destroy self-conceit and evil.
When I make some time, I shall study some pages of the Quran too. I believe all great religions contain true messages and lessons - but, of course, I also believe that Greek Orthodox view is the most integrated one.
As for Baha'i (excuse me, all Baha'ists, but I will speak my mind), it's too New Age...

Although Christian, I'm not particularly attracted by religions but I think all of them have beautiful symbols. Those I very much like and admire are representations of Brahma, Visnu, Siva, for example. They're agreeable to look at and even bring some peace of mind, just by looking at them. May it be because of their design or their actual power...
