'India Now' festival to begin in London from July 17

The Tourism Ministry in coordination with the office of Mayor of London is undertaking an extensive media campaign along with the inauguration of a three-month long festival 'India Now' in London from July 17. t is the biggest Indian festival to be staged in the UK, with activities planned across London from July to September expecting participation of at least one million locals and visitors.

To promote India as an important tourist destination for Britons, some of the main highlights of 'India Now' will be Trafalgar Square festival - a three week India theme festival, commencing from August 2, and Regent Street festival on September 2, when London's premier shopping street will offer Indian music, food and artisans.

The festival will comprise of a series of India-centric events and activities to showcase its contribution to world culture, its rich tradition, contemporary India and its new trends encompassing art, film, theater, food, music and fashion.

As part of the media campaign some of the transit vehicles plying along the main routes in London will wear a vibrant look with "Incredible India" colours.

Outdoor panels will highlight some of London's landmarks through "IncredibleIndia" visuals and the print campaign covering important publications will focus on the close links between India and the United Kingdom, with the by-line "India is closer than you think".

'IncredibleIndia' is a Tourism Ministry initiative to showcase India's rich tradition and culture.

In addition, to the advertising campaign, a series of Road Shows have been planned in the UK in the month of August.

These Road Shows are being organized in collaboration with the Indian Association of Tour Operators, to facilitate greater interaction with their UK counterparts for promoting Indian packages there.

Over 150 cultural organizations from London will participate in this event.

Around seven lakh tourists from UK visited India during 2006. These promotional activities are being undertaken to further tap the immense potential of this market.

With a view to having an effective presence of Incredible India in London, during the 'India Now' event, so as to benefit from the reach it would offer amongst visitors at the event, the ministry of tourism is participating in this event, by way of undertaking an extensive media campaign in the print and electronic media as well as on buses, taxis and outdoor panels in Central London, during the three-month period from July to September 2007.

As part of the campaign, some of the buses and taxis plying along the main routes in Central London will wear a vibrant look with 'Incredible India' colors. Outdoor panels will highlight some of London's landmarks through 'Incredible India' visuals and the print campaign will focus on the links between India and UK, with the tag line 'India is closer than you think'.

In addition to the advertising campaign being launched, a series of road shows have been planned in UK in August 2007, during the 'India Now' event. These road shows are being organised in collaboration with the Indian Association of Tour Operators, to facilitate greater interaction of the Indian operators with their counterparts in UK, for promotion of India packages in the UK. This event will comprise a series of India-centric events and activities which will showcase India's contribution to world culture, its rich tradition and more importantly, contemporary India and new Indian trends across art, film, theater, food, music and fashion.

Over 150 cultural organizations from London will participate in this event. It is the biggest festival of India to be staged in the UK, with activities planned across London for the entire season. It is expected that at least one million Londoners and visitors to London will participate in the event and there will be extensive media coverage as well.

Main highlights will be:
- Inauguration of the event at the London Eye on July 17, 2007

- Trafalgar Square Festival - a three-week India-themed festival, commencing from August 2, 2007.

- Regent Street festival on September 2, 2007, when London's premier shopping street will be transformed into an Indian street scape with music, food and artisans.
