* Narmada Park (Taman Narmada), this park was the relaxation place for the king during the time of feudalism. This park has a Hindu temple and swimming pool. It also has a fountain which is called "Youth Fountain",
* Kuta - a surfing mecca like its Bali namesake, but that's where the similarity ends
* Senggigi - the main tourist strip, including the neighboring beach of Mangsit.
* Pura Batu Bolong, Small Hindu temple located in a scenic spot at a cape overlooking Senggigi beach, named after a rock (batu) with a hole (bolong).
* Tanjung - small town in the northwest and home to the best resort property on the island
* Gili Islands - three islands (Gili Air, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno) of the west coast, popular with backpackers
* Mount Rinjani - large, active volcano looming over the island and the 3rd highest peak in Indonesia; the Mount Rinjani National Park is a hugely dominant feature of the island.
* Segara Anak, the crater lake
* Aik Kalak hot springs, at the crater rim.
* The Mulang Pakelem. This annual Hindu ceremony at the crater lake dates from the 18th century invasion of Lombok by Balinese from the kingdom of Karangasem and attracts hundreds of participants.
* Senaru - gateway village area to Mount Rinjani, with some great waterfalls and other spectacular natural scenery.
* Air Terjun Sindang Gila. The best known and most spectacular of the waterfall. The water cascades everywhere here breaking some 50 metres above the main arrival point.
* Air Terjun Tiu Kelep. Less spectacular waterfall but still very much worth it. Continue on uphill from Sindang Gila. Tiu Kelep has a nice bathing pool below the falls with very cool invigorating water.
* Tanjung Aan - almost impossibly beautful isolated bay in the southeast which is earmarked for high end resort development
* Tetebatu - village on the southern edge of the Mount Rinjani National Park with wonderful scenery.
* Air Terjun Jukut. These falls are not as spectacular as those in the north of the national park around Senaru, but still very much worth the effort to see.
* Taman Wisata Tetebatu (Tetebatu Monkey Forest). This park is a gentle 4km walk north of the town. Expect lots of macaques and some pleasant enough scenery and waterfalls.
* Kotaraja is famous for the local form of stick fighting - peresehan. Regular events are held in which young Sasak men ceremonially fight each other with a rattan stick and a buffalo skin shield. Enquire locally in Tetebatu to see if any fights are scheduled.

- The General McArthur memorial is set on a hill overlooking Jayapura harbor and city. Whilst the memorial itself is basic the steepness of the terrain makes the site a spectacular vantage point. A number of old Dutch colonial houses can also be seen on the road up to the memorial.
- Hamadi Beach is a local harbor beach near the city. On the beach are four large artillery embankments from the second world war. Further down the beach are the local fish markets.
- The area around the governors residence consists of old Dutch colonial villas, some of which still have what look to be traditional style gardens.
- Santani Lake is outside Jayapura city itself (30 mins). It is a large freshwater lake surrounded by steep mountains. A small number of restaurants and guesthouses are located on the edge of the lake.
* Biak
- Parai beach, Yendidori beach, Adoki beach, Wardo beach etc.
- a World War II monument , a museum with cave. The cave was a hiding place for japanese soldier. In the way to Bosnik you can find a bird park. the collection include Cendrawasih (paradise bird of Papua), Kasuari and Mambruk (the original bird from Biak).

- The Korowai and Kombai peoples, renowned for their very tall treehouses.
