The Water's Mighty Fine at Michigan Indoor Water Parks
Michigan is currently home to seven indoor water park hotels. Michigan is a perfect fit for indoor water parks since we have such a brief time frame for swimming outdoors.
I've been to Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City during the summer and during the fall and it was actually less busy when I went in the fall. A large factor in that was probably that school was in session so families couldn't get away as easily.
Anyway, Michigan has seven indoor water parks that include a hotel or lodge stretching from Dundee up to Mackinaw City. It looks like the lower peninsula will have an indoor water park within reach of most of Michigan's population.
Indoor Water Park Hotels are Popular Places to Stay in Michigan
By the end of 2008 Michigan's indoor water park hotels will stretch from Metro-Detroit on up I-75 to Mackinaw City. Hopefully the U.P. will get in on the action sometime in the near future.
When I was a kid the closest thing I can remember to an indoor water park in Michigan was the Holidome (Holliday Inn) in Jackson. It featured a pool, miniature golf, ping pong tables, and pool tables.
Yep, I thought it was pretty cool. Now, kids vacationing in Michigan can stay at indoor water parks the likes of which I could never have fathomed.
It's a good time to stay at one of the many Indoor Water Park Hotels in Michigan.

Northpointe Inn in Mackinaw City
The 23,000 square foot indoor water park at the Northpointe Inn just opened this spring (2008). Features include a 250 foot lazy river, 2 3-story waterslides, 4 children's waterslides, a swimming pool and more.
Michigan's Indoor Water Park Hotels
- Avalanche Bay
- Michigan's largest indoor water park at 88,000 square feet. Plus, during the winter you can take a break from the water park and go skiing.
- Great Wolf Lodge
- They pack a ton of fun into their 38,000 square feet of indoor water park at Great Wolf Lodge. Eight water slides and a four-story fort are the main attractions.
- Splash Universe in Dundee
- At 25,000 square feet you won't get the plethora of attractions that a larger indoor water park has, but it does feature some water slides, a lazy river, and a play area.
- Northpointe Inn Indoor Water Park
- Opening in Spring 2008. At 23,000 square feet this is also one of the smaller indoor water parks in Michigan, but that doesn't make it any less fun. A lazy river, water slides, and kiddie area are the main features.
- Best Western Sterling Inn
- I didn't even know Metro-Detroit had a water park, but here it is. The 23,000 square foot water park features a 3-story water slide, zero-entry pool, lazy river, play area, and more.
- Wild Buffalo Lodge
- This was scheduled to open in the Fall of 2008 just down the road from Great Wolf Lodge. I have not heard of any construction at all so I am thinking that with the down economy this project is no longer in development. Feel free to drop me a message if you have any further information.
- Zehnder's Splash Village
- The former Bavarian Haus Motel was recently transformed to include a 31,000 square foot indoor water park. The park includes the old standbys - a lazy river, play area, and water slides.
Added perk - Zehnder's has some of the best fried chicken dinners around. You have to try it.
