Get This Baby Out!!!! (Methods for inducing labor naturally)
Unfortunately there is no magic word, no special formula that if you follow, you will go into labor immediately, however, there are a few things you can do to speed up the process of inducing labor naturally.
Unique, Medication Free Ways to Induce Labor Naturally
1.) Maternity Acupressure: This method is so effective that it will allow you to do 2 very important things, by a) Inducing labor naturally at home, and b) Get labor pain relief. All of this with something as easy as pressing a spot on your skin with your thumb (or partners thumb)!!!! Maternity Acupressure is so awesome that it works for 83% of women who try it! Let's face it...by this point you have tried everything else and nothing worked. You have swollen ankles, varicose veins, an aching back and can hardly take another day of being pregnant...this is probably one of the safest and most effective ways for inducing labor naturally.
2.) LaborBoost Labor Cream: This is a herbal cream that is used and recommended by midwives to stimulate labor. LaborBoost has powerful herbs (blue and black cohosh) that help strengthen and increase labor and reduce pain. It is made with 100% all natural ingredients.
In the July 2005 edition of Pregnancy Magazine, they voted LaborBoost as one of their top picks for belly balms! This cream is highly recommended by midwives, because it is a natural way to ease the body into labor, without having to deal with harsh drugs (Pitocin), does not cause diarrhea (castor oil), and is extrememly effective for women who are already in the early stages of labor (i.e. have dilated 1 cm or more, and/or the cervix has begun to efface).
Other More Common, but Effective Methods

3.) Walk - moving around forcing your baby down, getting his/her head in position for birth. (Movement of hips gravity = labor). This is also a great tool to use once your contractions start. It eases the pain and helps you to focus on other things.
4.) Sex - yes the same thing that got pregnant can get the baby out! Sex is great for several reasons; it not only is a great way to express your love for your husband, but there are 2 things that sex does for inducing labor naturally. When a pregnant woman has an orgasm her uterus contracts which if done at the right time can start the labor process. The second way sex can help in inducing labor is that the semen contains prostaglandins which thin out the cervix to allow for dilation. Hospitals have inserts they give pregnant women to ripen or soften their cervix to induce labor, and the insert is nothing more than pig semen (prostaglandins).
5.) Nipple Stimulation - along the same lines as sex, having your husband stimulate your nipples, causes your uterus to contract, and can start the labor process.
6.) Castor Oil - this should be used only after consulting your physician, and should be used sparsely. Castor oil causes bowel movement and can cause discomfort. The benefit of using castor oil is not only getting cleaned out before delivery, but because it causes diarrhea, it causes contractions of the bowels which can irritate the uterus and cause it to then contract, inducing labor. Do not use this is you are dehydrated, ill, or high risk. An embarrassing side effect can be that you have diarrhea during labor. Yikes!
7.) Spicy Food - Similar to castor oil, spicy foods irritate your bowels and can cause contractions, but only if your body is ready. (Try this before castor oil. It is much more pleasant.)
8.) Stripping Membranes - If you are past your due date, or then doctors need to induce you, they will strip your membranes, if your body hasn't already. This procedure involves the doctor using his/her finger to remove the membranes around the amniotic sac, causing your body to naturally release hormones that begin the labor process. This procedure can be painful, causing cramping and discomfort.
9.) Breaking the water - This is a simple, non-painful procedure, where the doctor or midwife actually goes in and breaks the sac around the baby. This does cause contractions to begin, however if they aren't strong enough, the doctor may then administer Pitocin to speed up the process, inducing labor with synthetic oxytocin.
Labor and Delivery
Easing the pain.
While you are pregnant you dream about and maybe even dread the actual labor and delivery of your baby. While you cannot wait to hold him/her, you can wait to be in what most women describe as "the worst pain of your life". Being informed about different techniques you can do to ease the pain is the very first step in having a medication free delivery (which is by far the healthiest option for both you and your baby). One technique you can try is to use a birth ball. A birth or birthing ball is very efficient in helping you to get the baby deep into your pelvis. While on the ball you can do different rocking, and light bouncing exercises that not only help ease the pain but will allow gravity to aid in the labor process as well. The birth ball can also be used during your pregnancy to give relief to your aching back or just be a nice "chair" to sit on.
Another technique is maternity acupressure. Yes it helps to induce labor, but it is also effective in reducing the labor pains as well.
Thirdly you can try different breathing and relaxation techniques. Laying on your side in the fetal position, while you breath deeply and relax each and every muscle in your body one at a time. The more relaxed you keep your body the quicker the labor will progress. You can actually hinder or even un-do your labor progress by tensing up and getting anxious or nervous. So remaining calm and breathing deeply is very important.
