Industrial Music

This lens is a new Plexo Lens, which means you can help make it better! I am starting this lens with a list of the Bands and songs that are in the genre labeled as industrial (EBM, Electronic, etc.) music. Pandora.com describes my music preference as songs that have sonority (having the character of a loud deep sound; the quality of being resonant). So I hope to learn what specific genre I should be reviewing to find new music. Is my preference, Industrial, EBM or Trance? Stay tuned.

Check out the following songs I'm enjoying by the artists listed either by checking for samples on the Plexo Band site section, or within iTunes.
Covenant: Bullet, Final Man, Stalker, Call the Ships to Port, Babel, Leviathan, Go Film, Dead Stars. Apoptygma Berzerk: Electronic Warfare, Unicorn. Assemblage 23: Drive. Front 242: Head Hunter, Quite Unusual. VNV Nation: Chrome, Legion, DarkAngel, Testament, The Farthest Star. Imperative Reaction:Ruined, Never Tomorrow. Seabound: Traitor, Scorch the Ground.

My iTunes iMix is called "Semi Industrial" and is the mix I play most often. The new VNV Nation album is out!

Thanks --Todd

What is Industrial Music?

In case you do not know...

History of Industrial Music
"It's clear that the label, "industrial music", is of no use in pigeonholing music, but it still serves as a useful pointer to a web of musical and personal relationships, a common pool of interests and ideas which every industrial sub-genre has some connection with."
Brian Duguid

Lists of Industrial Bands

Real Industrial Band List
There is a difference. This includes noise, various kinds of electronic music, experimental sounds, and some ambient stuff.
Industrial Dance / EBM List
I believe most of what I listen too would fall in to this category, but I am going to research some of the "Real Industrial Bands" to learn more about the history of this genre.

Lyrics

Many Industrial songs are poetic but often sad..

Savior by VNV Nation

As the stars appear I know I'll find you staring at the sky.
Pointlessly reaching for some light
You hope to guide your sorry way.
Your body bleeding.
Your body burned.
Your body scarred.
Around the cinder of your heart

A God of love.
A God of care.
A God of hope.
A God of words.
A God as lost as you and blind to fill your hollow soul again.

You seek a God to stand above you,
wrapping healing arms around you.
You'll find another God of pain,
a God of suffering and tears.
Give yourself unto your God.
Sacrifice yourself again.
Burn your thoughts erase your will to Gods of suffering and tears.
Tie hallowed bonds around your hands.
Kneel before this seat of shame to Gods as lost,
Gods as blind, Gods of suffering and pain.

Also, I wanted to add to your lists but when I try to add anything it asks me to log in (despite me being obviously logged in!). There is a great new Political Industrial Music artist named Opir that I wanted to add to the Industrial Band web sites list. The site is: http://www.opir-music.com/ . Have a listen! Much love.

Great Lens, Edmands! It's interesting to see what different variations people come up with when they talk industrial music, but you hit it square on the nose. Skinny Puppy is right up there with VNV Nation, too.

Nine Inch Nails will forever be my favorite industrial band, but your lens has opened my eyes to many others who may be just as interesting. Thanks for the great lens!
