How I Overcome Writer's Block

Ranked #946 in Squidoo Community, #114,396 overall

Your JOB Owns You

Your job owns you. Your time belongs to them. So there you are, looking for all the world as if you are lost. You found Squidoo, either through a friend's encouragement or some other link and you're excited. You KNOW this is a great way to make some extra money. In your heart, you realize that you might even be able to build an income to replace the J-O-B. Have you heard that term? I once heard that the letters J-O-B basically stand for 'Just Over Broke.' Whoever shared that little tidbit of information with me was very smart, in my opinion. I worked for years in many different kinds of J-O-B's and I was always Just Over Broke. Now, I'm on Squidoo. For the first time in my life, even though I've only been here less than a month, I realize that I can break out of the enslaving world of , you know... Bosses. I now have the option of working my way out of that world. Oh, don't get me wrong; I'm very thankful to have been able to work and make a living. And every job is important, no matter what position a person holds or the $$$ value being paid. There are some pretty highly paid executives who would be very uncomfortable if no one ever cleaned the bathrooms.

Earn While You Learn

These Are Changing Times

Writing for PleasureDo what you love and earn while you learn. These are changing times. Instead of working in a J-O-B with a boss keeping a close eye on all my efforts, I'm grateful to have found Squidoo; a place where I can do what I've always loved; write. And the sweetest bonus of all is that I can WRITE my way to an independent income. Thank you very much, Seth Godin. If I weren't so much in love with my good hubby-buddy, well... you know ~ ~ ~

Actually, I'd like to thank the whole team; Megan Casey, Corey Brown and Gil to the rescue. Sorry, but my good hubby-buddy won't let me get too interested in you all, either. He's funny, that way.

Write About What You Love

Earn While You Learn

Chaos of WorkingClimbing the Corporate or, Incorporate Ladder

To begin with, it's important to write about what you love. Y you can earn while you learn and still write about what you love. Although it's true that I have probably lived in more places than most people and met more folks than the average citizen, it would be easy for me to look back on my life and say, "I'm no different than anyone else. What can I talk about?"

Okay, let's see; here are the basics: every person goes through the same general patterns in life. We are born, we grow some and attend school. I do realize that too many people never have some of the opportunities I'll mention, but we cannot help them until we can help ourselves; isn't that correct? So, on to the basic pattern that most folks follow.

After school, more education for some, work for others. Unfortunately, I believe the biggest share of the population never gets to choose the type of employment they would like to do because 'Life' steps in and dictates the necessity of some kind of income before starvation. It is a sad fact, but it is a fact, nevertheless. Eventually, some of us get married and raise families. With or without a better education, most of us struggle from one paycheck to the next, wishing there were some way to get off the treadmill that we have been so rudely deposited on.

Don't Be A Job Slave

Instead, LOVE your job

Angry BossDon't be a job slave! Instead, love your job by doing what you love. Don't you just LOVE working? Yes, I am being facetious. I enjoyed the work I did in many places of employment. I also made lots of friends. The thing is, although I struggled in school to get the best education I could, graduation brought quick and surprising reality for me. See, I found that Kindergarten through twelfth grade had taught me nothing of the real world. I didn't have enough education to work in a fast-food restaurant because even though I could add and multiply, I had never learned how to count change back to a customer. Sadly, it seems that many graduates I meet today are having the same difficulty.

So my first job found me caring for three young children. Mostly, they were good kids, but the oldest had something of a morbid sense of humor. I'll spare you the details. Suffice it to say, I was very happy when I moved UP in the world to a place where I could mop floors and clean toilets.

By now, you must be wondering how I plan to make money on Squidoo with my very exciting past. That's exactly what I'm going to share with you. You may find that you have as much to talk about from your past as I do from mine; perhaps, even more.

Let Writers Who Have Done it Show You How

You Can Do it, Too

There are ways to overcome the challenges of 'Too much month at the end of the money'. I feel that working hard, learning to write well and taking advantage of the opportunity that Squidoo has offered us is like finding a bag of gold. If you never see the bag of gold, you can never pick it up and you won't have anything, even though the gold is there.

If you see the bag of gold on the ground and you don't pick it up, you don't have any more gold than you had before you saw it. You have to pick up the bag or you lose the benefits you were offered.

If you see the bag of gold and pick it up, but never open it, well... you get the picture. In the end, you have not gained anything, have you?

Write About It!

Which topic today?

If you're new to Squidoo you are wondering what you can write about; am I right? If you've been here awhile you've written some things and now, you're wondering what you can write about. If you've been here long enough to have written quite a bit, my guess is that you have developed a habit of noticing things you didn't notice in the past, but you haven't quit looking for new topics to write about. Am I write... Oops! That is, am I right?

Now, if you love to write as much as I always have, you probably feel that you have found the fountain of youth, as it were. How can anyone grow old while doing what you love? I can practically feel my skin cells dropping all the collected age from all the years of doing things I HAD to do, instead of getting to do what I LOVE to do. By next week, I won't be surprised to realize that I've reached infancy again. Then, I'll have to begin learning all my lessons from the start. What an adventure I'm in for! LOL.

Don't you wish your dog could 'Wee' on his own?

Wait your turn!

If you wanna' make a good income on Squidoo, you need to develop a writer's mindset. In other words, everything offers itself to writing. What's the first thing you did when you woke up? Did you take the dog or cat outside for a quick session of relief? Were you dancing from foot to foot because you had to wait for your pet to get finished before you could seek the same relief? Write about it. Other than uncomfortable, how did it make you feel? Did you have an instant when you resented that little furry ball of fluff? Maybe, for just a moment, it occurred to you that being without a pet wouldn't be so bad, after all?

When you got back inside, after your Fluffy Foo-Foo's job was done, were you successful in making it to the most popular room in the house or, did that turn into a whole different kind of adventure, making you late for work, school, a date, whatever? Write about it! Some people don't seem to think its appropriate to pen the tales of bathroom antics. My feeling is that its a natural function and anyone and everyone can relate. As a result, such stories offer themselves naturally to humor; 'most everyone will remember a time when something similar happened to them. C'mon. You can do it. Write about it!

Keep Up With the News

Think and Write About Everything

Write!Keep up with the news around you. Think and write about everything. The important thing is that you look for ideas at every turn. Do you have a garden? Why? Or, why not? I'm personally not the gardening type. I learned that... again... when I joined my hubby in planting this year's eggplants. My husband happens to love getting into the dirt and checking Every. Single. Weed. and grub that appears there. Once again, I was reminded that dirt is yucky. No, no; before you say anything, lemme' explain. I can get down in the dirt with my grand kids and drive trucks all over the world, as long as we don't run out of back yard. When I go to the garden, though, so does everyone else; mosquitoes, flies, grasshoppers, frogs, toads, snakes and numerous other icky garden hobbits that I don't especially want to make friends with. Besides, what kind of wife would I be if I denied my good hubby-buddy the joy of getting dirty in his own way? Not a good wife, I can tell you. An' anyway, playing in the dirt with the grandies is a whole lot more fun than working in the garden.

How Old Are You?

Do you have a past?

Making soapWhat's the first thing that comes to mind when I mention lye? Did you say 'Soap'? Ah, you must be in MY age bracket. How was it your gramma' used to make that lye soap, again? Write about it. I'd like to read some of those stories from the past. Just because I listened to endless stories from my gramma's and grampa's depression era lives doesn't mean I'm tired of hearing 'm. I never tire of new adventures an' how someone overcame challenges. That's because I've fought many a battle against suffering and heartache, myself. I didn't always win, as no one does. But I always got back up, after getting knocked down. Now, I wanna' know how you managed to get back up after one of your struggles. Write about it. Tell me more. Tell me about it in more WAYS.

Gramma Shot the Ghost

Will you be Tweeting about my gramma

Gramma' Shot the GhostI can't tell you how many times I've shared the tale of when my gramma' shot the ghost. And you know what? I'm sure gonna' tell it again 'cause I love that story. After all, not everyone is challenged by a ghost an' lives to have grandchildren who tell about it. I wonder what Gramma' would think if she knew that her story might someday be Tweeted? Maybe when I see her again in the hereafter, I'll learn exactly how she feels about being the subject of so many round table discussions, eh? I'm looking forward to it.

This will most definitely be a progressive page. There are so many ways to discuss the whole world. What can you write about? Well, look around you. There's everything to the east an' everything to the west to share. Look to the north. Whaddya' know about Santa Claus? An' did you know there is a woolly mammoth buried at the south pole? Go out there and Write!

Writing is what we do

Get Busy!

I'll be returning to add more topics that you can write about. An I'm sure I'll be adding more of my own adventures, as well. I'm a writer, after all. I've had some things published, but not enough to brag about and most indubitably not enough to have made a lotta' money. I'm a Newbie on Squidoo, so I haven't made any money on here, yet. Please make note that the operative word here is 'Yet' because I believe that things are about to change for me. There are a lotta' things in this ol' world that I haven't even touched on. How 'bout you? Are there things you know that you haven't written about? I'm looking forward to reading about 'em. But don't you dare stand in one spot, close your eyes an' say you don't have anything to write about. You know why? If nothing else, you can write about the spots that appear behind your eyelids whenever your eyes are closed. Now, if you don't have something to write about after reading this page with all these great suggestions, I hafta' wonder if you really wanna' write? There's lots to learn about an' share, so get going. Write! Then, come back an' lemme' know 'cause I wanna' read your newest work of art. Go... Write!

Squidoo is my new home

This is Yaya's Home

My good hubby-buddy says that living with me is like having his own personal 'Lucy'. I'm not really sure how I feel about being compared to the star of I Love Lucy, but I guess as long as he remains my 'Knight in Shining Armor', I'm not gonna' complain.

Many long years ago, my good hubby-buddy came in an' swooped me up on his beautiful steed that looked suspiciously like a little red Volkswagen an' we've been sharing the adventure together, ever since. We've managed to live in no less than twelve different homes, in only two states, an' loved every single home we lived in.

After being told we would never be able to have children, we were blessed with four wonderful tax deductions who all grew up to be taller than us. Now, the plan is in motion to keep the tax deductions growing. As a result, there are lotsa' little grandies who call us by our favorite names, 'Yaya' an' 'Bopa' {hubby-buddy}.

I'll be sharing more about the clan in the future, so come back often an' don't be surprised at whatever you learn. Thank you for visiting me an' taking part in the good, the bad an' the sometimes strange events in my life.

Until the next time, keep a hug on,

~ Yaya

Writer's Block is not a problem

I could run out of words

Writer's Block is not a problem. My mama used to tell me that if I wasn't careful, I could run out of words before I got to the end of my life. She was just joking, of course. I think. However, my good hubby-buddy did tell some friends, the other day, that he had loaded me with quarters before we left the house ~ ~ ~ as though he thought I was talking a lot. haha. Silly b-u-o-o-o-y. You can pro'lly tell that I never do much talking, now, can't you? I'm the quiet an' shy type, really. No, REALLY.

Whaddya' think? That I can hold my own in a conversation or that I tend to sit back an' listen while everyone else talks? Go ahead, tell me. I can take it. I'd love to hear what you have to say.

I don't have to worry about writer's block. With almost 500 pages on Squidoo, I still have a stack of notes for new lenses. So many ideas, so little time. Actually being retired, I have more time than most people, but not enough to keep up with my active brain.

Yaya you are an amazing writter. I had a wonderful time reading your page. You are right, there are so many things to write about we just need to get on the frequence where we appreciate small details around us and write about them.
I love reading all the way to do the bottom when I visit a lens in Squidoo, there is so much to learn from other squidooers from writting styles to all those fantastic subjects they write about. This is the best writting site ever and love being here :)

Thank you. What a lovely thing to say. I love writing an' joining Squidoo is pro'lly one 'uh the smartest things I've ever done. Writing has been such an important part 'uh my life... for as long as I can remember... that trying to live without it would be like trying to live without air. I jus' don't think I could manage it. My biggest challenge is narrowing my thoughts down an' settling on jus' one or two things to write about at a time.

An' I agree with you. Squidoo is the best writing site ever an' I also love being here. Well said.
