Barack Obama was featured in the May 2008 issue of Time Magazine as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Who IS Barack Obama, anyway?

Barack Obama's career moved quickly through business and law to the Illinois State Senate in 1996 and the US Senate in 2004. His landslide win over opponent Alan Keyes was the largest in Illinois history, and made him an instant celebrity.

Since then, Barack has been best known for his ability to bring diverse groups of people together and get them excited about change. Barack's list of political accomplishments revolve around making policy and law changes that solve problems and end errors.

Deval Patrick says...

In the May 2008 TIME Magazine article announcing Barack Obama as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World, Massachusetts governor and article author Deval Patrick says:

“You just want people of his caliber to lead.”

Some of Barack Obama's Accomplishments

Win or lose, love or hate, there's no doubt Barack Obama has some pretty incredible accomplishments under his belt. Here are just a few:
  • His first law allows Americans to see online where and how their tax dollars are being spent.
  • Created the Earned Income Tax Credit in Illinois, to provide tax relief to low-income families.
  • Works to ensure veterans actually get the disability pay they are promised.
  • Introduced the STOP FRAUD Act, which protects homebuyers by increasing pentalties for mortgage fraud.
  • Helped pass laws to secure and improve health care services and screenings for women and children.

Barack Obama's Books

Barack Obama published his first book, a memoir about his father, in 1995. Since then, he's published The Audacity of Hope and taken part in many other written and audio publications to promote his political insight.
