Infomercial Products, Junk or Treasure?

With infomercials bombarding the airwaves with hopes and promises, there are some products that aren't what they claim to be. I'm sure many of you have been disappointed in at least one or more of these products. While some do work, they usually don't last very long. Here you will find some of the best and worst infomercial products from my personal experience and Consumer Reports.

Informercial Products I Would Recommend

My Personal Best

  • The Turbo Cooker This stovetop pan looks like a wok on the outside, but inside it contains a steam rack, cake pan and lid that has a close or open value. The turbo cooker comes with an instructional book, video (at least mine did) and recipe cards that are color coded. They are simple to follow. I've tried every recipe that came with it and wasn't disappointed. I also use it just to steam vegetables. What is good about this cooker, is that you can cook 3 things at the same time in the cooker. You can make rice or pasta on the bottom and fish, chicken and vegetables on the steam rack. It was worth the money. I give this 5 stars.
  • Oxy Clean I had purchased this stain remover powder way back when the late Billy Mayes advertised this product before it hit the stores. I must say that this product really works in the wash. I give this 5 stars.
  • The Chia Pet I purchased this for my son as a gift. I t really does work, but there was a smell to it that I didn't like. They come in all kinds of shapes such as; animals, cartoon characters and even the president. It's worth the money for a child to keep them amused and excited to see the grass like hair growing. I give this 4 stars.
  • The Magic Bullet Before this was offered in the stores, I ordered it from an infomercial. This magic bullet is great for whipping up some scrambled eggs and smoothies and sauces. It's simple to use and is microwavable and dishwasher safe. I wouldn't use it as a chopper for onions or garlic because they become mushy. It grinds coffee beans really good. The set comes with two different mixing blades, 4 drinking mugs, lids, juicer and recipe book. The only thing that I didn't like, was that ice cubes didn't crush to good. I give this 4 stars

Products I Wouldn't Recommend

My Personal Worst

  • The Snuggie This oversized blanket with arms isn't what I expected. It's ok when you are sitting down, but when you stand up,you'll be tripping on it. Also I washed it several times and each time my dryer was overloaded with lint. It's really not that warm either. I rate this one star.
  • The ShamWow Save your money. It's cheaper to use a sponge and paper towel and works the same.
