Economic Resource Planning

These days trying to keep up with computer technology can be intimidating. Even major corporations need teams of people not only to stay on top of the latest information technology innovation, but to see if it's something they can use and how compatible it is to what they already have. The people in charge of this are called Economic Resource Planning (ERP).

This can end up being an incredibly massive job, and way more than one person can handle. For example, an ERP Business Analyst will focus on the bottom line; i.e. the cost aspects. Another key person in this arena is the ERP Technical Analyst and/or Developer. There are many online education options for people with busy schedules that wish to enter this field.

Technical Analyst Or Developer

The Technical Analyst is responsible for the actual hardware and software decisions. It's their job to make the final decisions on what to acquire. It's rapidly becoming an unwritten rule that any purchase or application these days will require some sort of modification to better suit a specific company's needs. Overseeing these applications is another responsibility of the Analyst. They also must teach other company personnel how to use the machinery or applications. These are people who have put in their time, and have worked for a while in the industry.

The Developer is a key position under the Analyst. It is their responsibility to modify any recently acquired hardware, software or create an application that is felt necessary to insure the machinery fits a company's specific needs. This is a much more technical-oriented occupation, but can earn as much as the analyst, depending on the Developer's skill set. It can usually also lead to an Analysts position. All of these positions also require a business or science degree.

Requirements And Expected Salaries

If a young person intends to enter this profession, they do need a strong understanding of both finance and management as well as knowledge of hardware and software. Graduates with a science bachelor degree or a BA or BS in either computer science or business can usually find junior level jobs, just plan on continuing education to fill in the gaps one will not have the time to fill during that initial period. Most ERP pros have Masters Degrees out of necessity.
