Information on Wind Turbine Types

Turbines today essentially fall into two groups; the farmer/gardener type(horizontal axis) type and the egg beater(vertical axis type). We mostly see the the horizontal type dotting the countryside.
The parts of the wind turbine can include:
* the blade-the part that looks like a propeller, which converts the energy it gets from the wind into shaft energy;
* the drive train that in most cases usually includes a gearbox and a generator;
* the tower that supports the propeller and drive train;
* miscellaneous equipment, including cables, controls, and interconnecting parts You can see these parts and get more information on homeowner wind turbines here.

Sometimes many wind turbines are grouped together to form a wind farm. Electricity created from the turbines is funneled into a grid and then sent to customers throughout the country.

Information on Wind Turbines: Size and Output

What works for me?

information on wind turbinesThere are many sizes and a variety of power ratings for wind turbines. Some of the largest of the gentle swans on the prairie sea can produce enough power for more than 1000 homes. The personal version of the wind turbine for home use that produce less than 50 kilowatts can power your computer, the dishwasher or pump water. For an all electric home or business, a mid size turbine producing around 750 kilowatts would take care of most energy needs.
What's the big draw to wind energy? It's renewable. The wind will always be there. It's clean. Put it to work for you. Just take some from your backyard!

    I live in a very rural area and have built a diy wind turbine in my backyard. It's not overly big, but it generates enough power to cut my electric bills in half. Definitely worth it and I have already seen a return on the investment. If you can do it and have the room, go for it.
