An ingrown hair is a hair that curls back in on itself and grows back into the follicle, or a hair that fails to grow out of the follicle and stays embedded in the skin. Ingrown hairs are generally little more than a  minor irritation, but they can also be painful - and unsightly. If they are left untreated ingrown hairs can also become infected. Believe it or not, most everybody will get an ingrown hair at some time, and if you shave regularly, you may well have to deal with ingrown hairs on a frequent basis.

Got one now? Follow these top tips to get rid of it and to keep that little pain in the neck (or face, or leg, or ahem! an 'intimate' area) from coming back.

Tips To Prevent Ingrown Hair

Try shaving with a GOOD quality electric razor.
Wash the skin with warm water before shaving.
Shave in the same direction each time.
Use an acne cream made with salicylic acid on the days that you do not shave.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating options include creams, lotions, or body gels, a slightly abrasive washcloth or glove specifically designed for exfoliation.
Do not exfoliate the skin if you already have ingrown hairs because skin irritation may occur.
Use a good quality shaving cream
Always shave in the direction of the hair growth.
For men, shave downwards on the cheeks, chin and moustache area and shave upwards on the neck.
For women, upwards on the legs, underarms and bikini area
