Inheritance Cycle
Inheritance Cycle is a bestselling high fantasy series written by Christopher Paolini. The series spans four books, two of which have been published to date: Eragon and Eldest. The third book of the series, titled Brisingr, is scheduled for September 2008.
Eragon
Inheritance Book 1
The first book of the series, Eragon, was published in 2002. Paolini started writing it after he graduated high school only fifteen years old. After it was republished in 2003 by Knopf, it became a bestseller with worldwide readership.
The book begins the story of Eragon (the title character) in the fantasy realm of Alagaƫsia. The book was widely criticized as drawing on both Lord of the Realms and Star Wars, but is nevertheless widely considered a great book by a talented author.

Eldest
Inheritance Cycle Book 2
Eldest continues where Eragon left off. It, like the first book, was criticized for similarities in plot with Star Wars. However, it has been generally thought to be better written - most likely due to having a more mature author.

Brisingr & Unnamed
Inheritance Books 3 & 4
The third book of the series, Brisingr, was published on September 20th 2008. The fourth book is still unnamed.
The series was drafted as a trilogy, but in 2007 Paolini announced that it would have four books instead. According to him, Brisingr would have grown too large otherwise.
The word 'brisingr' means 'fire' in the ancient language of the elves and has been borrowed from old Norse language. It was also the first word of magic that Eragon learned from his mentor Brom in the first novel.
