Building Your Own In-house List
They say that the money is in the list.
That's actually true.
Building your own list is actually easier than you think.
Use an autoresponder to help you build your list. You can use it to provide an free e-c ourse to build your list. Make the course 4-7 days in length. This means you will need 4-7 messages in your autoresponder.
If you aren't a good writer, you might consider hiring somebody to write those messages. One place to find writers is Elance . You could also find a student at a local College that would love to earn a little extra money writing your messages. You'd be surprised how low cost that can be.
Once you have some subscribers to your e-course, you can send a follow-up email recommending a product. Schedule the follow-up message to go out 7-10 days after the last day of the course.
Don't recommend junk. Your reputation is at stake. If you recommend something of value, they will thank you and buy from you again. However, if you recommend something that is junk, they will blame you and not the owner of the product. Remember, your reputation is at stake. Bad news travels a lot faster than good news on the internet. Remember that and you'll do fine.
Test...Test...and Test some more
That means finding the best places to advertise and the right offers to motivate people to sign up for your list.
Do you know the best places to advertise?
Of course you don't. Nobody does. But, there is a simple way to find out. First, you need to track your results. There are many places to advertise. Some are free and some are not. Free ones are traffic exchangees, free classified sites, browser bar ads, forum signatures, etc. Paid advertising is ezines, PPC, etc.
Each ad that you run needs to be tracked so you know if you are getting results from the ads you are placing. You need to know the return rate on each of those ads.
So, divide the number of signups by the number of impressions of that ad for that advertising source.
If the oercebtage is less than 1%, don't waste your time or money on that advertising source.
You also need to test the ad itself. Does one version of ad copy pull better than another. Use split testing.
The first thing you need to test is the headline.
The easist thing to test is the headline. If all you wrote was a headline, wouldn't that be easy? Of course it is. Just brainstorm some headlines and then test them,
Test them systematically by picking 2 headlines against each other and track the results. The one with the best results is now your 'control' headline. Dump the other one and test another one against the 'control'. Make sure you reset the results of the 'control' before you start the new test. If the new headline beats the 'control', then it will be your new 'control'. You're always trying to beat the 'control'. Once you get thru all the headlines, your not done yet. Think of some more headlines to test. Try to write a headline that you think would beat your 'control'.
Now, there is an easy way to test headlines. Use a browser ad bar. You may have heard about INSTANTBUZZ. But, there us niw sinething better.
Better than INSTANTBUZZ?
If you're familiar with INSTANTBUZZ, then you know what browser bar advertising is.
I think I've found something better.
Here's why:
Both Instant Buzz and Free Traffic Bar let you earn free advertising credits while you browse any site on the web and let you build a multilevel free traffic downline. Instant Buzz currently has a larger installed base as it has been around longer, but Free Traffic Bar has 1,000s of active members with new members every day.
Some differences.
1. Free Traffic Bar (FTB) has over 185 search, research and marketing tools built into the toolbar as well as the advertising function. Instant Buzz (IB) just has ads.
2. FTB offers 3 types of ads: toolbar, banner and text ads (similar to google). IB has 3 types of ads: toolbar, hypaspace (similar to popups) and email space ads.
3. FTB sells ad credits at a lower price than IB and lets you use them in whatever type of advertising you want. For example, 10,000 ads are only $6.49 for Masters pro members. IB sells packages of advertising that include their different types of ads in set amounts like $79 or $90.
4. I and many other people have had problems getting the IB FireFox version working. FTB works well in both Internet Explorer and FireFox.
5. FTB offers a 50% commission for pro members who refer others who buy ads or upgrade. I don't believe IB offers a cash commission structure.
6. I believe IB offers some free training sessions. I offer free training sessions for FTB members twice monthly and I cover a lot more than just how to be successful with boodling your FTB downline. I also cover topics like Landing Pages that Sell, Using Lead Capture Pages to Stop Wasting Traffic, Internet Advertising Success Basics. Internet Advertising Tracking and more. "When I installed Free Traffic Bar, I was ready to sit down and do the math to compare it to the conversions I was seeing using a long time, very established Traffic Exchange as well as a competing toolbar service and a forum that uses a similar ad credit system.
It didn't take long to see that the Free Traffic Bar ratio for ad displays (credit used) to clicks was significantly higher than any of the three alternatives.
I now have Free Traffic Bar installed for both IE and Firefox browsers on both of my office computers. Thanks for the great marketing tool!"

I think Free Traffic Bar blows away Instant Buzz any day. Its a very impressive tool to say the least.
