Be Comfortable In Your Own Skin And Let Animals Keep Theirs

As a spin-off from their "I'd Rather Go Naked" anti-fur campaign, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) created "Ink, Not Mink." Tattooed celebrities from the worlds of music, movies, fashion and even some tattoo artists have shown their body art and voiced their support for animal rights and the promotion of the usage of fake fur for clothing.

Get information about the campaign, see the poster images, watch videos from the celebrities who've participated and lend your support to this colorful but humane animal-rights cause.

Say "No" To Fur and Fur Farming

Fun Faux FurWhat "Ink, Not Mink" is really campaigning about isn't the encouragement of tattoos, it's against using fur for fashion and the practice of fur farming.

Thousands of animals, mostly mink, chinchilla and foxes, are raised and killed solely to obtain their fur. The animals are frequently raised in cramped and diseased conditions with up to 25% of the "crop" dying from respiratory or other illness in the process.

The animals are then subject to electrocution, drowning or are often clubbed to death. Many animals are just horribly wounded or stunned instead of outright killed and it's not uncommon for them to then actually be still alive when they are skinned for their fur.

It's now possible to create synthetic "fake" furs that imitate real animal skins and as such, farming and killing animals just to harvest their skins isn't necessary anymore.

How do YOU feel about fur?

Should people wear fur if they wish?

It's their choice, plus it's better for fur to be farmed than hunted in the wild.

Greenwickpress says:

Yes, people should. Granted, that fur should be harvested in an ethical way. Bur, leather, wool and other animal-based fabrics are the warmest and most waterproof materials around - much more so than any plant based or oil based fabrics. Plastic oil-based fabrics are horrible. They don't last very long, they don't work very well, and consider all the damage that oil causes.

I actually prefer if it comes from the wild, because then animals can live freely, but farming has its uses too.

redflea13 says:

Why not? Farming for fur is no different than farming for food.

bob says:

Use more of it. It's great, keeps you warm, looks good, unlike those ugly bareskins with their seriously ugly tatts.

kgod says:

There are a couple problems here, one is that if everyone stopped eating livestock a whole heck of a lot of people would die. Given that fur is biodegradable, and people are going to eat livestock no matter what, it makes perfect moral sense to wear skin/fur from animals that are harvested for food. A friend of mine here in the Northeast often stops to collect deer from the side of the highway so he can harvest the pelts for clothing and the meat if in good condition. does anyone have a moral problem with this? just curious. I like the idea of marketing ink as an alternative to fur.

Marcia says:

Yes. It is a natural resource that can be warm and beautiful.

No way, real fur should be replaced by fake fur!

hottmomma says:

saying its ok to choose to wear real fur is saying torture this animal it whole life then kill it in a malisous way or just rip its skin off while its still alive. i wonder how many people would choose to wear it if they had to watch the whole process.

Pedro says:

It's bullshit that people believe that them being warm and beautiful is worth a living life. I'm sorry to say, but those who wear animal coats, you're not that special, and trust me, you're definitely not worth spitting towards in my opinion. Maybe we should start skinning newborns, I mean their skin is soft right? Or maybe women, their skin is quite soft too. Then men, so we can use their tougher skin for work boots and work jackets. Sounds like a plan to me.a

SylviaRolfe says:

How would you like someone to wear your skin? Fake fur should be the only fur.

Andromedan says:

They can wear their own fur.

BonniBluh says:

If God wanted us to wear fur we would already have it! Why aren't we the people more aware of this demonic behavior? A larger awareness must be created. It took a silly reality show for me to hear of it. If there is to be change, more people need to be made aware!
