Introducing Inkheart
In the story of Inkheart, there is a story within a story: Mo originally brought four of Inkheart's characters to life while reading aloud from a novel which is also called Inkheart - Basta, Capricorn, Dustfinger, and Dustfinger's pet marten, Gwin. Dustfinger, a fire eater, desperately wants to return to the world of the fictional novel; Capricorn, the villain of both the "real" and "imaginary" stories, wants Mo (and later, Meggie, who shares her father's unusual gift) to summon an evil monster forged from the ashes of the murdered known as the Shadow, from the fictional novel; and Basta is Capricorn's right-hand man who loves his knife.

Inkheart: My review
Inkheart bridges a divide between reality and fantasy in that it's set in our own world, but fantasy has crossed over into it. Meggie, Mo and even Dustfinger are characters we feel drawn to, and Meggie handles the multiple dangers well. Like many a young teen, though, she often acts with single-minded impulsiveness that can be more harmful than helpful since she rarely has all the facts.
The main premise of Inkheart - that Mo can read characters into and out of books - is a tantalizing one for any avid reader. And a great discussion starting point. Which character would you want to read out of a book so you could meet them? Which book would you want to be read into?
"Characters from books literally leap off the page in this engrossing fantasy. School Library Journal"
Inkheart: Your turn
So Mo can read characters into and out of books. If you (or someone you knew) had that power, how would you use it? What character would you want to read out of a book? What book would you want to be read into? Tell us below!
Read out or read in?

The Adderhead--his immortality bound in a book by Meggie's father, Mo--has ordered his henchmen to plunder the villages. The peasants' only defense is a band of outlaws led by the Bluejay--Mo's fictitious double, whose identity he has reluctantly adopted. But the Book of Immortality is unraveling, and the Adderhead again fears the White Women of Death. To bring the renegade Bluejay back to repair the book, the Adderhead kidnaps all the children in the kingdom, dooming them to slavery in his silver mines unless Mo surrends. First Dustfinger, now Mo: Can anyone save this cursed story?

Cornelia Funke on writing Inkheart:
I have dreamed for a long time of writing a story in which characters from a book come into our world. Which book addict doesn't know the feeling that the characters in a book can seem more real than the people around us? And there is of course a simple reason for that. For which real person would permit us to look into their hearts as deeply as a storyteller permits us to look into his characters?

UPDATE:
The opening of Inkheart has been pushed back! According to Variety, concerns about marketing the movie forced the studio to push back the opening. Unfortunately, since Brendan Fraser has two other movies coming out in late summer/early fall, Inkheart's going all the way back to 2009. Sigh.
